Hey TPU,

So I decided my parents need a new compy, BAD. Being short on pennies, I've decided to go the AMD route, since their stuff is much cheaper bang for the buck.

Here I go:

Now I'm not to familier with AMD boards and CPU configs as I am with Intel at the moment, but I'm learning.

How does this look so far?

Thanks TPU?

I would just drop the video card and get a mobo with the 780 or 790 chipset. They have fairly powerful integrated graphics.

Actually that 740G (alias HD2100 Video) is good enough, don't buy that crappy 8400gs. I am in the process of building a machine for my friend and it has 740G chipset and it plays 1080P video flawless without any strain. You anyway have 4GB ram, just allocate 512MB for the video, u good.

+1 on dropping the gfx card and getting a mobo with onboard gfx

possibly this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186141
$66

its an AM2 cpu mobo so im asuming it would work with the X2 4850e cpu (ill wait for a AMD user to confirm this tho)

Also is there a need for 4 GB or ram (are you going to be using a 64bit OS ?) if not i would drop down to 2 GB of RAM

possibly this

Thats a board I considered too. Sort-by-rating FTW. My roomie as it turns out just got this board too. We will see. Other than that, I'm confident. I'll be putting 64-bit Windows too.

If your parents are anything like mine all they do is net surf. Mine don't use their comp for anything else except videos they get in emails from friends. If that is the case could also drop the 4850e nd grab the 3800+ x2, thats plenty enough for net surfing, my parents were so amazed at how fast there comp is now with that, lol.

I'm gonna toss up some links, I mentioned the 3800x2, here is the build I would suggest if it's just normal net surfing they are doing.

3800+ X2 - $35.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103067

Foxconn A7GM-S 780G with HD3200 built in video, only $7 more than what you currently selected - $66.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186141

G.Sill 4GB DDR2 800, quality ram, lots of good ratings - $44.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

Lite-On DVD-RW, 5 eggs, cheap - $22.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106100

RAIDMAX Xa Combo - Case, PSU, Keyboard, Mouse, I got this for my parents solid setup for a low powered comp and that "fancy" fan will make them go "wow"- $46.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156043

Seagate Barracuda 250GB - This is $5 less than yours they won't notice 8MB cache difference, if they do just toss the $5 more - $49.99 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148261

And the grand total of that comp, which should be more than enough for general computing tasks is.... $267.94, add about $30 for shipping and you got your parents a computer that should last them for quiet a while for a mere $300! :rockout:
