looking at a 9800gt 512 at tiger direct i've looked at other cards 4850 and my question is is it better to get a card with more memory or a better core clock memory clock stream processors. how does that work and which numbers are a better tradeoff?

Better core clock is always better.
Memory clock is not a significant factor of gaming
More stream processers/shaders will give better performance but u will need more ROPS.

Where u live? Canada or USA, then always buy from newegg. U can buy this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121272 10 bucks more then the gt. And the 9800gt will suck playing crysis unless all settings at low/low-med at 1650x1080 or less.

Yea that 9800GT wont run well on crysis at your resolution. I have a samsung 22" widescreen and my 4870 has trouble sometimes. The gt def will have loads of trouble

Your best bet is to listen to everyones comments here and go for the 4850 instead. I thought a 9800 GT beats a 4850 in most games but I was wrong.

i think better would be buying 4870 its atleast GDDR5 like 4850 got only GDRR3.

The Palit 4870 wins hands down temperature wise... It was the coolest of the GTX 280, GTX 260, 9800GTX+ and the Palit 4850...

Everything but. Unless you get a magic card that plays crysis because people with HD 4850's play it fine but the game just doesn't like me at all.
