10% performance increase doesn't really justify the price they gonna charge for this new card. IMHO, overclocking a GTX-280 would get the same result. Heck, even the GTX-260+ black edition from XFX get results almost identical to the GTX-280. Of course, if u're looking to overclock the GTX-285, then yes, it'll be the fastest single-card solution out there. Or else, I think it'll be wise to stick with the GTX-260+ (XFX's Black Edition) or just a stock-clocked GTX-280 would just do fine. That 10% performance is hardly noticible in real-world gaming or applications. It's like a 2-5 seconds difference in transcoding a DVD to Mpeg-4 file. It just doesn't make sense to spend that extra hundred bucks for that little performance increase. If u're truly looking for an upgrade, then wait for the GTX-295. That will be the baddest of them all!!

I agree, 10% should not justify another card number release. For it's defense as stated by Wolf the card should be 10% faster and use less power(not sure of the actual %). So hopefully we'll see better performance with less power consumption and better heat dissipation.

by the time GF300 lineup comes out the 295 wont even be worth the upgrade if you have a 260 or 280.

so can we do SLI on GTX285 with GTX280? yup we know the card is actually the same only 55nm revision and higher clock, but bios will tell us the card is GTX 285.. anyone??

dunno TBH, probably could use the second card for CUDA but it all depends on NVs mood, probably wont since the cards would have to sync in speed and arch.

9800GTX can do SLI with 9800GTX+, but i'm not sure the new GTX285 can do SLI with GTX280 due to different bios reference.

use second card (GTX280) as a CUDA.. bcoz of physic features.. i think its to much.. 9800GT will be more than enough..

did i only one see this is not good from nvidia , so gtx295 price 500 $ so this one price will be not over 400$ , so did nvidia think about gtx280 owners , or they will try to tell them you are fools cuz you got gtx280 we are setup for this , i see only how is got gtx260 feel better

+1... still an overclocked GTX280 would do just as well. I hope these cards aren't overpriced.

Yes, and it would also consume a hell of a lot more power while doing it, and the GTX285 should be able to overclock even further.

by the time GF300 lineup comes out the 295 wont even be worth the upgrade if you have a 260 or 280.

Of course, and by the time the G400 lineup comes out the G300 cards won't even be worth the upgrade either. That isn't exactly a good point. The G300 cards are still a time away, I wouldn't consider them in any purchases currently.

did i only one see this is not good from nvidia , so gtx295 price 500 $ so this one price will be not over 400$ , so did nvidia think about gtx280 owners , or they will try to tell them you are fools cuz you got gtx280 we are setup for this , i see only how is got gtx260 feel better

This argument is made every time there is a refresh like this. It never works out though. Early adaptors know that there is likely something that will come out that will be better, and it will likely come out a few months later.

What im getting at is its not worth the upgrade if you have a 260 or 280 which would be a minor bump, aka goin from a 9700 Pro to a 9800XT, maybe goin from a 8600/7900/8800GS it would be.

Am I the only one who noticed a massive inconsistency with all these GTX 295 graphs; in the previous ones this card seemed to kick the living crap out of the 4870X2 but now it somehow automagically is ~10% faster than the GTX 280, which is as well ~10% faster than GTX 280 D:

This didn't surprise me at all. A good clocking GTX 260 beats a GTX 280. And the GTX285 is 10% improvement over the 280 so i just hope the price doesn't suck.

agree with you but the good product must have good range for trying , i mean nvidia must back to release good products can still more time in markets and in stable drop price range , like 8800gt,9600 gt , 9800gtx+ , and gtx260 is really good card and i am sure you are proud to get one
and if you remember other cards die cuz high price (we can say like performance per dollar) 7950gx2 , 8800 ultra , 8800gts 320-640 , 9800gx2 and now gtx280

why theyve been overcharging since the GF 6800 lineup.

No they haven't, where are you getting that from? When ATi has a product that compares to an nVidia product in performance, the nVidia product has historically been cheaper. This has been true for at least the past two generations(8000-GTX200).

What im getting at is its not worth the upgrade if you have a 260 or 280 which would be a minor bump, aka goin from a 9700 Pro to a 9800XT, maybe goin from a 8600/7900/8800GS it would be.

Well that is a completely different statement from what you said at first. I agree, if you already have a GTX260 or 280, this really isn't worth the upgrade. GT300 has nothing to do with that though, so I don't know why you mentioned it originally, which is why I expanded on what you said.

I think what you were originally try to say was that with GT300 coming up in under a year, it isn't worth it to upgrade if you already have a GTX260 or GTX280. And I'll completely agree with that.

I would love to see both companies go back to releasing products with staying power in the market, and not keep releasing something that is only a minor step up every few months.

I wish we could go back to the days where there was at least a year between major releases. Like the 9800 to x800 days, where there was almost a year between the two. Saddly, it seems the graphics industry has accelerated, which is why I tend to just skip a generation.

As a gamer I don't agree with that. The model we have nowadays is much better. I like playing games at the highest settings I can and I'm also concerned with how much I pay for that, so having the latest and greatest always is not the answer. Finding the card that best fits it's purpose is. So if games require X power then I want a card that delivers that power and not more unless that extra power is for free.

what i am getting at with the 8800 series is 600 Dollars for a Card? at the time then that minor refresh of the 8800GTS which didnt constitute the upgrade from a 8800GTS 640 to a 512, because technically you basically paid for the cost of a 8800GTX when you could of had 1 in first place and had the Strong Frames all along.

Thank you! I was just looking for another review. Now if the price is right on this card, I may pick one up, or just go with a much cheaper 1gb 4870.
