I spec'ed out my new PC and I have one question.

Should I get 2 55nm GTX 260's or 1 GTX 295 when its out.

It's about the same price, which would perform better?

Other specs:

Case: Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 RC-1000-KSN1-GP
Motherboard: Asus P6T X58
Processor: Core i7 920
HDD: Velociraptor 300GB
PSU: Corsair 850Watt Modular PSU
Memory: OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (7-7-7-24)

$1471 USD on newegg (not including video card)

What is wrong with what you got now??? I could easily see you moving to an e8400, and just buying a GTX280....

but seriously SLI on a 19inch??? hmm...I think a new monitor might be a good move. It's a good system. depends on if you want to wait for the 295. And also unless you don't want a new monitor.

The 295 will be wicked. I'm always pushing for whatever will conquer all the apps. A single GTX280 will rock 1680x1040 for me in anything, and I think you would not regret going with more power. The 295 will be wicked ;)

Oic, okay then I won't sweat you on the build then. I just didn't notice it in your system specs. Hmmm I would argue against i7 for gaming but I'm not familiar with the architecture vs the yorkies.

Hell if you got cash to spend, get what you want. IF you want to wait, you can, but 2 x gt 260 216 should be fine for you.

i could guarantee you that 2x260s will be faster.
a 295 is just going to be 2 260s underclocked, with less effective memory.

Its just like my card, 2x8800GTS512s beat a 9800GX2 (although not by much), and a 9800GX2 is just 2 8800GTS512s stuck together.

Yeah, 2 260 will be fine for a year+. I plan on getting a GTX 280 SSC edition when I upgrade.

I'll guess i'll have to see some benches. Does anyone have benches for the GTX 260 55nm yet? If possible in SLi config.

If you are looking to get benchie scores, then the 295 I think would be your better go. Personally, for right now, I agree with the moniter comment. A good duel setup is absolutely great to have. Or just a good 22 inch. (I think 24s are to big for something 2 feet at the most in front of you. hell, my 22 is near pushing it) A good display never hurts any system.

However, if its a gaming rig. Save some dough and just get a single 260. Besides that bloated benchmark of a game Crysis, is there anything on or coming to the market in 6 months that you HAVE to have an SLi setup to get more out of? I bet not. If you game, and thats really it, then a single card is all you need. SLi is a joke to anyone besides benchers in my opinion. Unless it is for cards dirt cheap when you get them. Eg, for the price of one 260, you could get 2 4850 and Xfire if you could get them for the same price.

Yes, it would be a little better, however, you play something like CoD:4, Left 4 Dead, Dead Space, ect...and tell me you can tell a HUGE difference between 150 FPS and 176. If you can, you must really need an duel card setup. If you like the normal 95% of human kind that can't, then a single card will still server you well.

As much as an anal retentive bitch that I am with my graphic and video game design work, my 8800GTX still serves me proudly.

Hope that helps a bit.

I play left 4 Dead alot and i'm looking to get 60+ fps on games like that I also play COD:4 and COD:WaW, also TF2 and the new Need For Speed: Undercover.

Older games like CS:S and BF2 and BF2142 should be fine at full resolution since their graphics engines get destroyed by any 8800.

I benched CS:S earlier at 1920x1200 with 16x AA and 16x AF and it came out with 90-100FPS. Which i'm very happy with.

I've yet to test l4d on my current rig, i'll see how it goes later on.
