The proc is, the fact that you have to spend $200+ on a board to go sort of defeats the proc price though imo, and until those go down a cheap proc doesn't do much for the price/performance. I'm sure some disagree though.

The price for i7 boards are a bit high (well not that high, just about right) . But the price for the proc is definitely worth it. It's $50 cheaper than the Q9550!!

You do have a point to a certain extent. The SLI+Crossfire functionality overthrows the cost of the motherboard. I mean a decent 790i/X48(DDR3) in retail box costs what almost $200 alone.

It's true, imo cf and sli have always been overpriced on the intel side of things. Especially considering you can get full cf for about $100 in AMD land. But yes the dual functionality is nice, but the fact that it's there doesn't do much for me considering there isn't another option. I really don't see why I'd ever want to put 2 video cards together (considering the problems, and considering I could get one to do the same), and thus I don't see why I'd want to spend more than $150 on a mb really. If they release another chipset then it'll get my attention. Forcing a $200+ x58 down my throat doesn't sit right w/ me. Again though, I know my opinion is not held by all.

But you can couple that q9550 w/ a $100 p35 oc the snot out of it and you'd have to bench to tell the difference.

x58 mobos are currently plagued with a lot of problems. x58 platform in general is in its infancy, there is still a lot of innovation to come from the mobo makers

That's what RMAs are for. I agree that there will be better motherboards, but everyone forgets about the Gigabyte x58s and their lack of problems.

It's the only oc'er for the i7 right now, so until we get some other boards it's difficult to tell if they truly are maxing i7s potential. I would venture to say yes, they are.
