Hi Everyone!
Well it is a New Year, Happy 2009 everyone, and it is time for a new computer! I have been WAY out of touch recently on the technologies and my head is spinning with the "new" stuff around. The rig in my profile was built by a friend of mine for me and functioned just fine, but I am looking for something new that will be able to accomplish different things.
I would like to build this all by my lonesome (of course with the help from TPU!) partly because I am up for the challenge and would like to take pride in actually doing this myself finally!
I do not think I can "recycle" many of the parts I already have so this will be a totally new build. I am on a budget and want to stick to it as best I can. I do NOT have to have the latest and greatest on the market (as it would most likely be cost prohibitive).
Here are some of the things I would like to be able to do with the new computer:
1. Surf the net
2. Transfer my old VHS and 8mm movies to DVD (I have never done this but really need to as I have a bunch of old family movies that need to be archived!).
3. Store video from my home security camera (Axis 207W) and access it remotely.
4. Capture TV and be able to store it on the PC.
5. MAYBE get back into PC games (pretty doubtful but don't want to limit myself)....I loved America's Army but stopped playing about a year ago.
6. Overclocking is not out of the question but not a neccessity.
About the only thing that I may be able to recycle is my Soundblaster X-fi Extreme Gamer PCI sound card.
I would also need to purchase an Operating System and Vista seems like it is the way to go now.
My last computer was an AMD platform but my helicopter flight simulator had issues with AMD processors so I would like to go the Intel route.
Budget.....well ideally Free is the best way to go but I would like to keep it under $750 if possible. I may be able to stretch that upwards a little bit. If I can accomplish the above things and be less expensive then I am all for that too.
