Valve is much smaller than you think. They probably have a really small team working on it so it takes awhile. Left 4 Dead just got finished but they still have to add updates and new content, ahem.

the Turle Rock team and original developers now employed at Steam should be working on that, but I'm fairly certain that they have people working on HL frequently considered the size of the updates - episode 1 + 2 were both about the length of time it took me to complete L4D

I heard that HL2: Episode 3 is the final piece of the Half Life story and will be a longer game then the first and second episodes.

Episode 3 is the last in the episodic games and the last in the Half Life 2 Series.

I guess after that they will some how make HL3. Hopefully with Shepard

I have heard the same. that episode 3 will be the finale of the game.

It wont be out for a while, remember how long it took between episode 1 and 2. the wait practially killed me.

It was only a year and a bit between episode 1 and 2? Episode 1 was released Jun 1, 2006. Episode two was around October 2007. I'd give it at least another year before I started to worry.

Valve stated that the wait between Ep2 and Ep3 would be longer than the wait between HL2 and EP1, it was in an interview in a PC mag a few months back.
They said they had a lot of put in and they wanted it to be perfect, but also that HL3 was being planned as well.

I can't wait to see the end, and I know Valve does great stuff, but you can't call it episodic content when it's so long between releases :\

I think you will like the if you like FPS games with an adventure style... the puzzles are fun as well... LOVE that gravity gun.

I also head EP3 was the finale of HL2, and that HL3 is also in the making... but i wouldn't bank on HL3 until at least 2011, with EP3 hopefully late this year. My guess is Oct/Nov

I think they partially do this for a reason, that way you will go play them all again.

I haven't seen anything newer on it since Oct 14... and that was when everyone was saying 'don't expect it before 2010'

My guess... either it won't be out until 2010 or valve will be valve and do a 'It's done you get it in a couple of months!' ploy

P.S. - no screenies that I can find... which was upsetting

my own guess would be 2012 for HL3 and early 2010 for Ep3. by God Valve have us by the balls, eh? we're powerless to do anything until they release something. still, there's Black Mesa to look forward to, that's supposed to be released sometime this year

In the famous words of Gabe or Carmack: "It will be done when its done." TF2 and Left 4 Dead have been the focus of Valve for the past few years. Ep3 has been in the planning all this time and yes this is the end of Gordon Freeman. However its not the end of the Half Life universie. Just wait kiddies, its going to be great!

What I want to see is the Source2 engine. Also FYI there is no Half Life 3 being planned. Valve conceders the episodes after HL2 to be "HL3".

yeah, i also am sceptical there won't be an HL3. i know it's been said a thousand times that the Episodes are considered HL3, but Newell has also said that it won't take as long to make HL3 than it did to make HL2 (but ironically it seems to be taking just as long).
