this is my config:

Sapphire HD 4870 512MB
P5Q-E
Q6600
2x2GB G.Skill Pi Black Edition DDR2 900mhz
TX650W
HD 500GB Maxtor

I have just installed vista x64, then catalyst 8.12 and spent some time on the computer installing programs and I had to restart a few times. Then I installed the first game, Mirror's Edge, after the instalation it asks something about the EA Downloader or something, at this moment the screen was filled up with 10x10 pixel white squares all over the place. I shut down Windows and now the computer doesn't turn on.

When I power it on all the coolers work but it doesn't show anything on the screen, the motherboard doesn't beep, nothing happens, it looks to me that the vga is the problem, right?

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Hmm, do you get any beep codes, if you unplug everything from the mobo except CPU, RAM and PSU?

If not try booting with just mobo, CPU and PSU. If you get beep codes then, it could be a problem with your RAM.

Just as another thought, I had this on a computer I built a while ago, but it did this, because one of the connectors from the PSU wasnt all the way in and clicked into posisiton, just check all connections before trying the above.

What videocard exactly do you have, because some come from the factory OC'd with weak fan profiles.

Anyways try reseting your CMOS and see if it fires up.

you should look at the back of the card, while the pc is turned on - there should be some red leds lighting if there is a problem

Try with another videocard and see if it works. That might point you in the direction of your 4870 being shot, but if it does the samething then it will also show that it might not be the videocard. Hopefully you got another videocard lieing around, spare parts are always nice to have in a situation like this.

**EDIT** Like said red lights, I completely forgot about that, there should be 4 of them, they can be configured it different shapes, but doesn't really matter. If they are solid red somethings up. You will see these flash whenever you boot a computer, but if they stay solid on, not good.

If all connections are tight, and you get no beep codes with just PSU/CPU/RAM, then it usually indicates a dead mobo. But it could in theory be any of the three. :ohwell:

I see three red light on the 4870 when I turn the power on, the first, third and fourth...

I posted on several forums about this problem and people say it could be anything... I'm going to a friends house and we'll test my ram on his pc then the video card and the psu... we'll what happens... if it all work in his computer than its a dead mobo right?
