LF new graphics card next month

well at first I was thinking about 2 4850X2's and I was fine witht hat now Im thinking......"hmm well what was wrong with 2 4870's in the first place? other then the factt that im trying to kill my friends PC with a GTX 280 and soon to be quad core?"

SO what would be the best thing to do? 2 4850X2's save the money and go for it! with a new PSU

or

2 4870's and will most likely have to get a new PSU anyways

4850`s = better performance.
4870`s = less hassle.

in my opinion 2 of these would do nicely, and probably 1 would be equal to or great than a GTX280

I would go with the 4870's myself. Plenty of power and should be on par with your friends system.

I mean is SLI/Crossfire even worth it anymore now that some of these cards take up so much power etc? and they're just powerful by it's self?

Anything above a 4870 could probably be considered overkill with your 22" monitor.

I had never gone Crossfire either, but after going, I can tell you that it's worth it. Easy as pie to configure and it gives you a rather large boost.

SO 2 4850X2's with PSU or looking at about 600+ didnt include PSU

2 4870's from XFX with PSU? 512MB looking at 474.02 thats with shipping didnt include PSU


Im thinking the 4870's would just be a better buy anyways

I do not agree. I couldn't stand the fps with a single 4870 on my 22 inch...

As to what I've heard above about using your x-fire mobo as an excuse to do this is lame. Really it's a whole can of worms. If you can't handle it right off the bat then you will spend at least 3 weeks trying to get it to work correctly.

A single gtx295 will take less power than 2x 4870... The single card solutions are always easier, and if you're just trying to beat your friend you won't do it with a non-nVidia solution. Take a look at my i7 thread. I have results from all sorts of current cards including 4870s, 4870x2, 260, and 280. The 280s I had in SLI raped the crossfire solutions I had, and in games I was much happier with a GTX260. When I had my GTX260 I was using an x-fire motherboard. If you're going for it then just get two 4870, but skip the XFX. Those are too expensive for yesterday's tech.

I'm going to be going 2x4870's in a couple of months. I've heard they work swimmingly together. Never crossfired either and I wanna be able to upgrade my monitor in the future. If you have enough cash, get the 295, but 2 4870's are gonna be cheaper
