Not all Intel X58 motherboards support SLI

Don't be fooled

Back in late August, Nvidia decided to give Intel and its partners a chance to implement SLI on X58 boards. Nvidia offered two options, hardware SLI support with its Nforce 200 chip, or software support for a nominal fee. Additionally, some sources suggested that Nvidia charges mainboard manufacturers around $5 per unit for its SLI licenses.

It has been known for several months now that most X58 boards support both Nvidia SLI and ATi CrossFire technologies. According to a recent report, however, one Gigabyte user over at the Guru3D Forums has reported that the GA-EX58-DS4 he purchased does not support SLI but only supports CrossFire.

Sounds like a job for ketxxx. :)

I can't believe that Gigabyte wouldn't enable SLI on such a high-end motherboard though.

I think that is really sad. The x58 board is suppose to support both SLI and Crossfire? And he gets a product that doesn't do SLI without a warning!? They should give out a warning telling you that it doesn't support either. I rather spend my money on a 780i board and then spend the rest of the money on a Q9560.

Seems kind of stupid of nVidia to do it this way, when they basically admit that it is extremely simple to mod the BIOS to support SLi.

I still don't know why they won't just allow SLi on any chipset. They are only hurting themselves with the hopes of making a buck. But I think they would make far more money off the extra sales of graphics cards.

Like fits said, only low-X58 won't support SLI.

X48 only support Crossfire anyway, so what's the problem?
