Buy now or wait till summer

I am going to build me a newish pc soon.

Planning something like this

i7 920/940 (depends on 940)
3 x 4870's (one x2 the other single)(not sure)
or
tri sli gtx285+gtx280 (not sure)
6gb 1600mhz ddr3 G.skill black pi
Dont have a clue what board, was thinking DFI. what do you suggest?

Also Need the retention bracket for the D-teck fusion v2 also

Got case, psu, hdd's monitor, os, keyboard, mouse

if i do this build soon it will be about 1 month from now after income taxes are here.

i just dont know if i should hold off and let more boards and what not come out before i do it.

What do you think?

and last but not least, the 800watt psu will power the gpu's of choice right?

if it was me id wait a little longer. New boards, more mature boards, new CPU steppings and god knows what else intel has in store, all of that will make me wait. May be prices will drop a bit also. Since you have a pretty nice system right now you can afford to wait.

The problem with waiting around is you never will act . If you always think that waiting is going to get you some thing better then you will wait till the end of the world . Action is always the key in computers . every quarter some thing new shows up and well waiting around only gets you nothing . Take action while you can seize the moment whenever the moment presents it's self .

oh, crap, i though that was your rig. in that case you may want to get something soon. Talk to fit about i7 stuff, he'll be able to offer you advice on what to get.

Well if you wait well after tax season then usually you see your return ending up going in other directions.

Prices may even drop by that time so you never know.

Or like the case with the e8400 when everybody wanted one you couldn't find one but now that they're not the hottest thing you can get em and at a good price.

So like trickson said just act soon or you'll be playin at low res and poor frame rates forever

Well i do and dont have the fund. im going to use the tax money to pay my newegg cc off and then use the newegg cc to pay for it. mostly to build up credit.

I dont know i would go with ATI or Nvidia on the tri graphics.

would the 4870's be better or 280's?

I dont game that much, i just want to be able to drive my 24" at max with whatever i do. gaming or not.

I do game on it some but not as much as i use to.

If you wait you can`t go wrong. Every thing you want still be there only cheaper. But with money in the pocket the temptation is big. You system is not bad so take big breath .

I would wait. Your rig should be more than enough to hold you over until summer. Its not like anything super demanding is going to be coming out in the next couple months.

I'm confused, if you don't game that much why do you need 3 gphx? Actually, even if you do game that isn't really very practical. Benching? If all your wanting to do is max out everthing @1080p a single gtx 280(5) will do that in 95% of situations. In those other 5% games (which you may not even play) a second will absolutely demolish it. A single 4870x2 or gtx 295 would do the trick as well.

if you arent gaming much dropping that kind of money on video cards is crazy. Unless, of course, you are going for the 3DMark world record.

You are talking about the Matrix, right? thats not that big of a temp gain as i expected, my overclocked MSI idles @44C with the stock cooler with the GPU core @ 1.263v.

i7 is total rip off right now because a high end C2Q could beat it anyway, if not equal performance. What would u rather get?

Answer is obvious.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. Are u really that rich? Tri sli gtx295 + 280 and i7 already costs 1K.

I would wait. There will be better stuff out in the summer, and on top of that, if you keep saving you'll have way more monies to spend on your new rig.

DDR3 isn't a rip off right now, it's pretty proportional. Not optimal, but not like it was a few months ago. And yes you could easily wait until the summer but what would you be waiting for? Cheaper prices? By that logic you might as well wait another 5 or 6 months b/c they will be even lower (and by then westmere will be around). Both companies have laid out their roadmap for the next few months and there isn't anything terribly exciting for a while. Like I said, if you know what you want, grab it, especially since price seems of little consequence.

Next summer im buying a car, fund are going to the car deal after.

If you peeps suggest i wait a bit, i can wait.

And btw, I want to go i7, so please dont bother trying to convince me to go c2q, I sold all my shit to go with i7 or PII
