Well I have finally got around to OCing this new Q9450 machine, its had 2 weeks of time to burn in so it should be good to OC its balls off now :nutkick:

After 5 hours or so of playing today I have managed to get 3.8Ghz @ 475FSB pretty stable (testing right now, but its fully benchstable vantage/superpi, etc.)

Ram is cranked down to 5-4-3-12 2T

3Dmark vantage went from 6377/34657 to 6381/41650 (GPU/CPU) on vista business x64 with 4GB ram.

Temps are steady around 60*C (corrected and calibrated real temp) open side panel, so this will probobly go up 3-5*C when i close it up, still need to play with the cooler/fan orientations though once i get this OC finalised and stable i will play with that to get the best cooling that i can from it.

Anyways onto the pics, here is a pic of the install and a ss of the clocks I will post the bios settings here in a little wile when i can be arsed to go write them all down.

Those are nice timings on the Ram. Nice overclock too.
But those temps seem high to me for the Voltage.

Also download Superpi Mod, so you can see the milliseconds.

Will your heatsink not fit so that you can blow air towards the back? In my case I found a significant temp difference by blowing the air to the back instead of pulling the air off the GPU and blowing out the top.

The XS mod wont run for some reason... crashes instantly... (even @ stock) its odd.

I havent tried turning the heatsink around yet i will worry about that once i get the clock stable as right now it crashed after 3.5 hours of OCCT :banghead:

I guess, but i want atleast 12 hours of stability I will playaround with the GTLs a bit later today after the superbowl and post back with the voltages/settings see if anyone can lend a bit of insight (this is my first major overclock since the Q6600ES on a BadAxe2.... lol)

Mushkin Redline DDR8000, Picked them up in anticipation of being able to hit 500-525FSB on this quad :( , I am pretty happy with were it is now though, when i get unlazy here ill go down to the basement and copy down the Bios settings for you guys and tweek the voltages a bit see what i can come up with.

Anyone have any advice to hit 500FSB on a quad?

If u have any luck push all the way to 1.4V or 1.45V and go 525fsb (500fsb is pretty good too) If fails try adding a few nb volts, still no luck then stay with the 3.8GHz.

Try these settings:

Vcore - 1.40000
CPU GTL - .63 & .67
CPU Pll - 1.64
FSB Term - 1.38
NB - 1.5
NB GTL - .63
SB - 1.1
PCIe sata volt - 1.5

Ram timings (for me) 5-5-5-15-45

100% stable at 3.8GHz 24/7.

RAM with DDR2 800 was oc'd to 951. With DDR2-1000 its still at 951. Cant seem to get past 1000 at all. :(

Edit: I wish they would hurry up and release that CMOS jumper switch that you can connect to the back of your computer to reset CMOS already. Makes life of an ocer that much easier.

Im prime95ing right now with 1.375Vcore - seems good sofar!

Also anything over 1.24vFSB is unstable for me 1.24 is perfect (for this FSB anyways) I made a little switch ages ago to reset bioses so its not that big of a deal.

Will post back in a couple hours with current results, and this time ill write down the settings im at ;)

Alright i got bored and decided to start testign some higher frequencies results as follows;

i needed 1.24vFSB to be bench stable @ 475FSB, i was able to boot to windows with relative stability @ 500FSB with 1.4vFSB though NOT stress stable (crashed within 10 seconds of prime95) Right now im debating how high i dare run the vFSB on a 24/7 base... doing some hard googling at the moment wile the machine stresses @ 475FSB some more (dropped multiplyer to test FSB stability)

From what i have been reading people are saying ~1.4vFSB is alright... though i still have my doubts about this.

anyways here is a screenshot of 500FSB

Ignore the vcore it was still setup for 3.8Ghz i was just to lazy to turn it back down, other voltages were;

CPU PLL - 1.56v
CPU VTT - 1.4v
vNB - 1.4 (it might have been 1.5 i cant remember )
CPU GTLREFS were both 0.630
NB GTLREF was Auto (manually setting it would give me isntability... so im happy with auto for now)

Will be sitting down with this machine again here tommorow i hope for another OCing session, goal is to get 3.8Ghz stable (475FSB) then i will work up from that stable base and see if the speed increases are worth the extra voltage/temps.

In a state of flux...
Gotta love Mushkin, I have some 1150mhz stuff from them and once I get this damn DFI board RMAed they will be fed some volts and clocked til they almost cook lol (I have an OCZ ram cooler so I'm sure that will help me)

I also own the P5K-E...solid board but so far I've only managed to get 470fsb stable from it and that's with a dual :( ...any help would be great lol
