You wont notice the so called bottleneck as much. It will still be there but your cpu usage will lessen and gpu usage will be higher. Try tightening your ram timings a little if you can't OC. That is very strange tho that you cant raise your cpu even the smallest nudge.

Now I have seen where they (review sites) lower the Video settings as much as possible to remove any GPU help, to show purely what the CPU is doing. But the CPU is going to work just as hard regardless of resolution, but the CPU can only do so much...The Video Card is what will work a lot more or less depending on resolution graphic settings.

There will be very little difference in cpu usage between 1440x900 and1680x1050, the difference is going to be the video card. At least that seems logical to me...

Which means a Increase in CPU Mhz will translate into better system performance across the board.

Get a 720 BE, even if your not a super good OC'er bump the multi up like 3 or 4, should be fine on stock volts. Like said your really bottlenecking bad with the prco you got. Heck with my 5000+ and 2x 3870's I had managed to get 11k in 3dmark06. Then here's the difference for you, I moved up to a phenom 9850 and OC'd it up to 3.2ghz and I got 15.5k.

But really 3dmark06 is a bad test for videocards, its much more CPU dependant. Clock down your CPU a bit and check how it effects your score, then turn it back to norm and drop your vid card down a bit. The vid card drop will barely effect your score at all. Vantage is a better test

the cards shouldnt be that bad but try some demos and crysis is rubbish for crossfire its horribly coded for it

get a 720BE like me so you can rape those cards, the 720BE will be much faster and it is on par with a intel E8400 i think

it wipes a lot of duals out the window and the extra core smashes duals in multicore threaded applications

The 720 is quiet a bit better than an E8400, People seem to be hitting 3.7 - 3.8ghz without a ton of effort on ari, and it has an extra core.

720BE at stock will do you proud. I'm sure they do 3ghz EASY on stock voltage which is what I would do at first boot if I had one.

Ok maybe the title is little harsh but I need to vent. I got my second HD4850 in my system last night and I gotta say as cool as it looks finally having crossfire the results so far have been sub-par.

Now I need to do some more tweaking but here are a few of my "lose" results.

Lost Planet DX9 ran worse than DX10 in Crossfire. Sometime worse than single card mode!
Warhead still only sees "mainstream" and I was expecting at least "gamer".

Granted some games seem a lot smoother but not enough to justify the extra 100 bucks I spent on a HD4850. Also my 3Dmark score only went up from 10,000 to 11,000. Maybe I'm being a crybaby noob about this but I honestly expected more.....

I feel for you, i was quite pleased with one 4870 back in the day, but adding a second was utterly uninspiring, beefy single gpu ftw.

For example, on my setup, at 1920x1200, I see a 1-2fps difference in Crysis between 1.8Ghz and 3.6Ghz on the cpu, about 3fps in games like COD4 using an 8800GT 1GB.

I know that SLI is more constant. And where CF works it is more efficient. If a would chose I would go SLI. But what you are experiencing I don`t think it is real performance of CF. I think you need clean install of OS drivers. And try some older drivers 8.11 - 8.12.

Sorry that my earlier post was misread. That is exactly what I was saying that more of the work gets offloaded to the gpu vs the cpu at higher res.

Ok I used the "Easy OC" switch on my board and my CPU is now at 2.53. The results were pretty impressive with a small oc of the FSB. I am now at 12844 3DMarks. Which still FAR away from where I should be but at least I confirmed its the CPU thats the main culprit. I was afraid I did a crappy driver install or something.

Yeah man. But now my CPU is at 43 degrees I need better cooling. But at least I know what to do now. Ill get a PII in July. What kind of score should I expect once I hit 3GHz?

huh 43C is nothing for a cpu. It can withstand temps to 70C. 15K for the question.

Either cpu tbh, but it would be alot easier (not saying it's an "easy task") to obtain it with the 720.
