Hey guys and gals,

My uncle wants me to make him a budget computer that can perform moderate tasks and that his kids can play games on. I've so far come to this build below. Let me know what you think.

CPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115206

MOBO- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128365

PSU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004

RAM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

GPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130378

HDD- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075

Well let me know what you think. He said he wanted room for upgrades so I think the 8GB RAM option with this MOBO is a plus. He never plans on SLI or Crossfire so I don't need to worry about the single PCI express x16 slot. Well lemme know if you guys have any comments or suggestions :toast:

What's the budget like? I'd drop down to a E5200. Not much difference between the E7300 and this cept this is cheaper. I'd also up the graphics to a 4670. 9500gt is a weak card imo and I'd pick onboard over it because it's not worth the money. However, the 4670 gives awesome performance for ~$70. And maybe a bigger hard drive. 250GB goes for ~$50 and 320GB for $55.

Well I was told not to go over 150G of Hard Drive space and I already have haha. And as for the processor, I agree. I have the same processor and it runs phenomenally for my needs.

Edit- Oh and I'll check out that 4670

Isn't a 4830 a bit overkill for this? Awesome price/performance though.

yeah but it ends up being the same price as the other mobo and gfx card... and in 3 months it won't be overkill anymore.

I'm also assuming his kids are a bit older - once they hit 11 - 12 (when I did most of my videogaming) they will appreciate the better card... (how old are his kids?)

EDIT: also get this HDD... its cheaper, 250GB w/ 16MB cache and has free shipping... 160GB is more expensive(no free shipping) and slower (less cache). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136010

Well his kids are eventually going to get older and I want him to have room to breathe in that area. That 4670 seems like it will be a great performer. I never have bought from Apollo before, anyone know if they make quality stuff? Reviews on newegg seemed to praise it but some customers on newegg have no idea what they are talking about (generalization I know, just my experience). Final price comes out to 701.35 shipped (before MIR). This includes the list above (incorporating these changes; e5200 and and Apollo 4670 instead of the previous hardware listed), a case, disk drive, and operating system (Xp Pro SP3).

edit- Not a bad idea on that hard drive, cheaper and bigger. NEW total comes out to $696 before MIR.

Most of this stuff also has free shipping... and the MB can OC to 1600FSB (as can that q8300) to give a nice, stable quad core at 3GHz... 9800GT will be amazing for games... and the HIPRO PSU is more than enough for the system... plus 8gb of matching ram right off the bat so he doesnt have to touch it.

Yeah man, knock yourself out. I wont mind at all. Just make sure it can do daily computing very well, such as email, watching movies, and some business programs. Also if it was in a micro atx form factor that would be the best. Oh and remember that his kids like to play games and according to my uncle they do not play anything too graphically demanding. My uncle is a little strict so I don't know what games they will even be allowed to play when they are older.. probably don't need anything that can run any shooters like crysis or CoD or anything of that nature.

Edit- Dang man! Not a bad quad budget build at all..

done look above post...

That will last him for a long time - if you OC that is actually a pretty high-end rig... might need a smaller case tho, that is a full size mid tower.

change the ram to an 4x2 config... that board supports 8GB but only two slots... so maybe only 4GB (less$$)? thats the only issue with micrATX... is they tend not to have 4 slots. and 4GB DDR2 chips are mad expensive.

EDIT: the only reason I go for the quad core is that dell can build you a quad core with 4 gb of ram and vista (and tech support) for 599... throw in a $70 vid card, and unless you OC, youre better off getting a dell (i know, i want to knee myself in the face after saying that but tis the sad truth)...

low end builds tend to be like that though.
check it out...

I'm pretty sure I wanna build it myself so I can make a little profit. I gotta come up with a final build by tomorrow though. He liked the quad core idea so do you wanna help me make a system under 750 shipped that will handle everything he needs? Also I think the 4 slot RAM might be a better option don't you? Do 4gb ram sticks even exist lol?

edit- oh and he also wants xp pro, not vista.

ok $750.74 even w/ taxes shipped to fresno... if you knock the CPU to a Q8200 then it will be under. 9600GT should be good for games...

Alright man I'm gonna look around newegg a little more when I get back from the gym and my brothers soccer game which will be around 6 PST. I'll post any changes that I would make and then we can compare and talk and all that good stuff. Thanks for the help!

Here's a few $500 wish lists I made. Be forewarned, they do not include an OS, Keyboard+Mouse, Speakers, and Monitor.

Intel + nVidia

Intel + ATi

AMD + nVidia

AMD + ATi

PS: All except for the AMD + ATi build has 2GB memory. The Intel + ATi build has an open box motherboard.

Hey Phanbuey,

What do you think of this build? Had to change your RAM out because it was on "auto notify" and my uncle wants to order today. Got a cheaper video card because I have a 9600 .. that same card in fact and he doesn't need that much juice. Other than that I think everything is the same.

edit- oh and the processor is the q8200

No problem. You don't have to apologize. Jr, could you explain why the power supply previously selected should be exchanged for one of the units you highlighted? Just so I can understand why I should add ten dollars to the total bill.

he is looking at your first post... at the $80 corsair, which is nice but a bit of overkill for the build.
