2. ATi has onchip audio codec that can transfer lossless sound upto 7.1 channels with 6.112mbps bandwith via hdmi
nvidia only has this on their IGPs, like 8200/8300

I'm sure the gtx260 and 280 have an onboard audio chip that does 5.1. I didn't get a jumper to activate it but it wouldn't work anyway because i'm using monitor speakers.

more like:

two HD4850's "could" be faster than both...

with CF/SLi its all situational and profile dependent, its almost impossible to generalise and just state that is clearly faster.

I agree there are many (if not most) situations where these cards scale BEAUTIFULLY, and does considerably better than GTX280 over average FPS, however consider the cases where it gets its ass handed back to it by a single GTX280.

Having owned also 2 Palit HD4850's 1GB Sonics what I CAN say is that in the games I play and synthetic benchmarks the GTX280 didnt really come that close although, I am sure that in others I dont play it could be a different story, and of course mine were 1GB cards clocked at 790mhz in Crossfire to be fair.

Damn I have just realised that in just one month I have owned 4 video cards

In my entire life I've owned 5 graphics cards

I envy you.....I'm the "Mug" in this little exchange, I had 2 Palits in Xfire, saw a great deal on a GTX280, sold the 4850's, had the 280 for 2 weeks, was a little disappointed in it's performance (in comparison to the two 1GB 4850's), sold that and got a x2 this week.

Much prefer to get one card and be happy and keep it, I am really going to try and keep this one for a long time!

I'm like that with the pc case. I spent about 400 - 500 quid on pc cases instead of the hardware :banghead: First I got a cosmos for odd then an antec 1200 then a mid tower and a Media centre case and ended up using the antec 1200 and giving the cosmos to kyle2020.

:twitch: those are some great speed on 1GB cards man, mad props.

things like your quad running at 4ghz complimented by almost 1800mhz DDR3 could be helping your scaling situation too, along with stellar gpu speeds.

and i hear what youre saying about being happy with a card for a while, recently ive been thru 8800GT, 9800GTX, 9600GT, 4870, GTX260... now im finally really happy and can sit on this GTX295 till at least the end of the year i suspect, it takes ALOT to slow it down, i mean, i can play crysis in all of its glory, not many can.

Not really, that would only help with loading, overclocking and stutters, my 4850's take out bottleneck with my cpu at 3.4ghz, moving to 3.6ghz doesn't improve anything but video converting.

Its all dependant on X48, P45 bandwidth but even then the difference is alot less than 10 fps.
If you go to the Last Remnant Demo thread you'd have seen someone score 111fps with a gtx280 where as Triptex with his 2 4850's scored a 122 not much difference at all but the price and multi gpu vs single gpu.

I envy you guys being able to spend so much on your rigs lol, but soon I shall be the nerd king of NSW and own better setups than alienware can ever give anyone bundled lmao! But yeah at the Q4 of 2009 wether ati or nvidia has the crown for performance i will have it >:)

Yeah 512 and main 1gb lolol, I saw the 1gb 1 dollar more than the 512 IceQ4 so decided to buy it incase my 512mb dies or if a game didn't scale crossfire. Other than that I haven't been bothered to sell my 512 to buy a 1gb ><

agreed

if I'm gonna say any thing about ATI vs Nvidia i'll put myself in the flame of this hell"thread".

and hayder don't put any thing related to ATI vs Nvidia in TPU again its full of kerosene and they just need a spark to burn.

yeh , i see this but this thread is news or we can say it is review and the reviws are(facts and informations) so we can't hide facts and informations all times cuz there is some guys like big trolls , cuz this thread for guys want informations not trolls , as you see my friend booth you and me have ATI and nvidia and we are never troll , contrarily we always look for updated our informations , so this threads is good for us and anyone like us
and im sure most guys here agree with me and you are first one

Just one punctualisation. RV770 has 16 ROPs, but those have twice the raw pixel per clock throughoutput. That means that on most favorable conditions (i.e 2560x1600 8xAA) they act like 32 ROPs and in worst cases they act like 16. Average within the games is probably near 24 ROPs (minus clock difference) and that's why they perform similarly. It's a characteristic of Ati's architecture, raw power with high inefficiency, versus Nvidia's architecture which is more headed to making the available resources work more efficiently. Don't jump yet, making the chip more efficient at resource level, makes it more complex and innefficient at silicon level (silicon/raw power), so both are valid approaches and it's only at discretion of luck which one performs better in each condition.

ok so what about 9800GT , is an 16 rop's and in SLI have great performance more than GTX260

Maybe, but you are comparing cards that are a full 2 generations from each other, when the 8800Ultra was released it was the King of the Hill and basically took the 8800GTX even further so it didnt have a great deal of overclocking headroom, if you look in sheer mhz overclockability then little will come any better than NVidia's G92, when you look at stock clocks of for example the 8800GTS 512MB, some cards would overclock almost 200mhz over their stock speeds, it's all "bang for buck" relative.

well take the nvidia gx2 and the ati 4870 and compair them as the only had a few months of a difference between release dates and how many times people have critisized nvidia for their cards being low performance

the 9800GX2 was released to beat a 3870X2, which it did quite convincingly. just as GTX295 was released to beat a 4870X2.

I don't really understand your comment.

Of course, 2 cards in SLI/Crossfire effectively double up the ROP count, as well as shader count. And guess what? (hehe j/k) It too doubles up the texture units, but in this case it's a little bit more limited by the fact that it has to load the textures twice. Mind that wether AFR (alternate frame rendring) or tiling methods are used, all the units calculate different pixels/threads so the work is just doubled. It's only the texture units that have to replicate some of their work, that is loading textures. 9800GT in SLI sum up 32 ROPs, 224 SPs and 92 TMUs, quite a bit more than the GTX260 has.

A different thing is what I said about RV770. Ati put twice the pixels per clock in his TMUs and ROPs into RV770, so in best conditions they have like 80 and 32 respectively. Wrost case, 40 and 16, but in real life it ends up being an average of both conditions so 64 and 24 are probably a good average, that even kind of explains its final performance when compqred to Nvidia cards
.

I know this is weird random thought but your better off with 2 Boards in Crossfire/SLI than you are with a Card that has 2 Chips on it because Power Requirements are way higher with the single board due to fact it has to dissipate heat between the 2 chips and then the bridge onboard.

Actually i dont think so, GTX280 or GTX295 SLi would both have higher power requirements than a GTX295 i bet you, just as 9800GTX SLi would have higher requirements than a 9800GX2.

i get what your saying about heat and that's correct, it is harder to dissipate twice as much heat in the same small space, but i think that's separate from power consumption.

I know this is weird random thought but your better off with 2 Boards in Crossfire/SLI than you are with a Card that has 2 Chips on it because Power Requirements are way higher with the single board due to fact it has to dissipate heat between the 2 chips and then the bridge onboard.

It's all the opposite actually. 2 cards in Crossfire/SLI consume significantly more, and it's no surprise, as being two different cards they have many redundant components that consume power (VRMs being the most significant ones). Here you can see both Crossfired HD4870s and the X2, 480w and 437 respectively.

Wrost case, 40 and 16, but in real life it ends up being an average of both conditions so 64 and 24 are probably a good average, that even kind of explains its final performance when compqred to Nvidia cards
.

cool you understand what i mean and you answer, thanx my friend , that's more than i know , nice information
so 2x4870 will be good chose
