DigiTimes recently reported that four out of the top-five branded PC vendors - Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Lenovo and Acer - have been listed as branded PC products eligible for subsidies under the China government's rural stimulus program, and as a result are expected to enjoy increased sales in the China market in 2009. However, the number five ASUS did not gain the government's approval. According to ASUS that's because the company market their PC products under multiple tradenames. BenQ was another company not to find favor with the Chinese government. Exact details concerning the deal between the listed manufacturers and the Chinese government are still unclear.

China hated ASUS from the start, cause they have been getting pwned by that company ever since.

Anything that demands respect doesn't deserve it. Asus doesn't need handouts, they know how to run things unlike some of the companies listed above.

i smell history in here! Asus comes from Taiwan! that's the "Republic of China" not "People's Republic of China" what we refer to as China
I think if the government chose to promote firms the look also on their origin thus Asus benefit is contrary their interest.....
Then may be I'm wrong but why got Benq nothing? oh there are from Taiwan too :)
And why is acer included then? mhh may be because of it's size ...

I teach art at schools from time to time. I do not demand respect, I get respect through good will and the respect of others. You did hit the nail on the head though, when I was in High School/Elementary School most teachers didn't care for me.:) I never give in to demands. Sorry for the off topic babbling.

Acer is also from Taiwan. Benq is Acer, just another offspring of Acer... So nothing political here.

WTG China in not accepting Asux.

@erocker: "Asus doesn't need handouts, they know how to run things unlike some of the companies listed above. " Excuse me??? They know how to run things better than HP and Lenovo?! Have you ever thought that those giants have waaaay better RMA than Asux? Which is damn important for a government? They don't need fancy stuff or gaming stuff, they need reliable products!

I could do well without Acer, HP and Dell.....

Lenovo is IBM... They can't honestly say they are hurting, unless it's their drop in sales of Redhat.... Sorry Debian FTW.

Benq had lastly a cooperation with Siemens mobile .... Siemens go down and the Benq partnership lost .

Now i will in light you , just a bit .
I had see on the Greek television one film about China and foreign investments ,
its was a very educational film 2008 production, about what to expect if you think to start a large business in China .

They had many rules , that you have to comply with ,
and they do not accept sort term relations.

I believe that the new harder rules , imposed because of the blind large production , that created many bad quality products , that started to damage the Chinese face world wide .

For example in motorcycles , that i am familiar with , the government of China ban .. yes BAN the exports of 120 makers of cheap motorcycles..

And set new rules ... every vehicle that will exported from China, it will comply from now and on, with the EU & international standards.

I am not in favor of any country other than my , but the new harder rules that China imposes to it self , has one major reason ,
they wish to wash out the label " Made in China = low quality ".

And another thing , China likes any technology that is created in China with the cooperation of others Chinese brands , that does not need American parts .

All Chinese weapons , runs Chinese made CPUs and parts.
China likes to be autonomous and independent , at military and in the technological field.

Its logical to peek partners , that are willing to cooperate by their terms .

GOOD!

Those screwballs said a long time ago in an interview LIVE that they would "LOSE" money for the next 10 years if that's what it took to put every small white box builder out of business.

So the way I see it, PEACE dell, I will finally not have to support your trash any longer!

For one thing, Dell has lost all of my business, because I build all of my PCs now. The only thing I will buy from a manufacturer is a laptop. I'm not willing to invest the time in building a laptop, so I buy a Macbook. I think Apple/HP/Gateway have the upper hand on Dell as far as laptops go, or desktops for that matter.

So wait. Why do they need help? There is a thing called supply and demand, when there is no longer a demand you can no longer sell your supply. Why do we need businesses that make something we don't want. Dell needs to help themselves.

Apple notebooks are nice...

Acer/Gateway/Emachine can be the next group to go out of business...

HP/Compaq... Ugh, I haven't dealt with their new ones so much but those erm from a year to two years ago were such trash, so many recalls across their entire product line.. Simply a disaster, can't in good faith recommend one of them to anyone anymore...

The only reason I don't own a notebook is because I honestly don't think any of them are built worth half a crap without so massively overpaying for them.

If a company makes enough money to boost one countries economy on the market, that country will feel the need to help that company financially during a worldwide recession.

Dell will then have the opportunity to innovate better products (to compete with other companies) and improve their customer customer relations. Not everyone has the ability to make their own computer. Thus Dell has the opportunity to serve them.

Your view on this matter is very selfish in my opinion.

China's decision makes much more sense than what the US government has done with their car industry. The chinese government most likely realises the importance of the IT sector and it does make sense to reduce the pessimism in the market in order for people to invest more into it.

China government try to help foreigner greedy monster company, like HP and Dell. Wasting people tax money for just a useless goodwill. Like buying many US and Europe product last month, wasting billions of US dollar, to fill the Europe nations treasure chest.

In China if I write a thing like this, it will be deleted by government. The reason is because the government do not want to develop a bad attitude among Chinese people toward the western. WTF? :banghead:

The western media always try to mocking and look-lowly to Chinese. Why not Chinese doing the same, right? I feel angry and unfair for it.

I think the government should stop to helping other nations, especially for already rich and advanced nations like US and UE and focusing to make his own people more productive and creative.

Giving money to already rich people is stupid right? The western never do the same thing like the China government right? We should learn from the western.

I think, I should open a computer company right now too. And the stimulus money for useless Dell and HP, should be given to me.:D...just kidding.
