How would an aluminium ramsink do? I get some electrical noise through, noticeable when loading a level in game or moving mouse.

aluminum will still help to cool the component - although it's not really needed for audio components, it helps to keep fluctuations in their operation down by keeping their temp more stable.

As to ability to shield from EMI - it's marginal. Not the best, but still capable of offering some form of shielding. Copper is prefered, though.

Depending on the size of the component needing to be cooled - short mosfet HS work, as do some small DRAM HS . . . the kind that are short are what I typically recommend, as most taller ones can easily make contact with other hardare which could lead to MAJOR problems. Make sure to double check, and wiggle check the component after everything is re-installed, prior to connecting power back to the rig . . . you don't want a HS to be making contact with any neighboring components.

Ok this is seriously starting to piss me off now, i've tried everything I can think of and it still won't work  damn crapative software! :shakes fist: I guess I can't use your driver's until I format again or until a workaround is found.

Fun this PC lark, isnt it? :p I think we can all safely say that the crapative software we will NEVER use again... at least, not that crapative software. Using something much simpler.. say a old EQ from a audigy card should work nice, combine it with the crapative basic CP (for CMSS-3D, crystalizer, etc) we should be good to roll.

I miss my ADI codec :( beat the pants off Realteks sub-standard offerings.

ED - No I havent formatted or anything. Just finished installing my new P5Q Pro after removing all its cooling, cleaning the stock junk off and using some AS Ceramique. Format is nigh. After I shall work on drivers WITHOUT touching that bloody crapative shit.

Didn't do anything about mouse movement noise, though I doubt it's through the chip, leaks in somewhere else.

Oh and don't worry, I've sinked plenty of motherboard/GPU components before :)

The Realtek chip now has (on top left of the picture next to red spdif)
http://www.links.co.jp/html/press2/ep45ds313.jpg
one of these small green thingies
http://www.quietpc.com/fi-en-eur/products/nvidia-vga/zt-zh100

Still don't mind that it didn't do anything for me, have sinked the CPU mosfets as well and will stick one of those bigger green things to the NB mosfets next time I'll remove the graphics card.

Nice speakers, they almost hide in the desk being so tiny :p

No mouse mat? I seriously recommend you to get one, desk is a bad mat and the noise is horrible.

Having another audio quality tester is always a plus, if you have whats needed to run Rightmark Audio Analyser (RMAA) comparing vanilla vs. modded drivers, that would be great. R2.18s will be up shortly.

R2.18 drivers uploading now. Check first post for links in about 20 mins.

Fixes:

3D Positional Audio & Equalizer tabs missing with XP driver

To Do:

Might try forcing EQ into Vista driver

The EQ thats with the Realtek CP. Takes some more fine-tuning but its just as good in the end (probably.. only testing with headphones atm) Still working on the basic crapative CP so people can use the crystalizer etc. Getting pretty pissed I cant use the crystalizer atm, its only some software junk, but unlike 99.9999% of the shit crapative come out with, that thing actually does what they claim (clean up MP3s)

Hell yes. Pre-programmed EQ settings for rock are WAY off. Try these. You may need to do some additional tinkering, EQ settings are subjective to your speakers. Remember the golden rule of rock, with the exception of really hard rock, its vocals over instrumentals, and don't go overkill on Bass or guitars and drums will sound distorted.

I have to admit I was half skeptical about this driver modding thing.

I'm currently using the 2.17 X-Fi-ed drivers on windows 7 and I expected a certain placebo to beggin with, but damn.... Using standard 2.17 drivers for comparisson in dual boot vista.

Let's just say my old Audigy 1394 SB00090 Platinum migrated to my girlfriend's pc.

Congrats on the discovery Ketxxx:toast:, I wonder now why the l33t haxors didnt have field day already with this whole issue back in 2006 when vista came out and the drivers sucked even more.

Hey guys, sorry for simply jumping into the thread like this (haven't read all posts).

I have a laptop which at Home I use with a Creative X-FI Xtreme Audio Notebook Card (for the S/PDIF-Output) and therefore have the drivers installed on the PC along witht he control panel and stuff. Obviously it detects my Realtek HD-Audiocodec as unsupported and does not let me access the equalizer and stuff with only it enabled.
Would this driver allow me to do that? And would this interefere with the already installed Creative software?
As far as I've understood this package always installs both, drivers and Creative Software, but could I possibly just install the drivers somehow and make this work?

Well, thanks for your help. Very cool project, cheers to Ketxxx :rockout:

Alchemy don't installing

Well thats a very useless post.. not even saying what OS your running

No need to use the crapative stuff at all, just install R2.18 and you will have most features, just without the crapative extras (still working on that)

hi, sorry i have a Q..

may i know what is the difference between these links on 1st post?

-Realtek XP X-Fi mod R2.16 32/64bit 15.6MB
-X-Fi MB Software 138MB (recompressed for much smaller DL size)
-Realtek XP X-Fi mod R2.17 32/64bit 16MB
-Realtek XP X-Fi mod R2.18 32/64bit 16MB

by the way, i'm using win xp 32bit.

and will i be able to uninstall it?

thanks in advance

R2.18 is the newest most updated driver (recommended) and of course you can uninstall it!

Should the realtek control panel change with these drivers? I still have the Standard Asus realtek control panel with no mixer settings apart from presets :(
