I have my new system running about a week, nothing overclocked, and I fired up the PC Probe II software that came with the board. It gives me a warning about the mobo temp at 45C. Is that a safe temp? Maybe I need a little more air flow through the case? It runs a little higher with the side off.

maybe is a bad mobo as the asus mobo uses stack cool which uses copper layers for distribute heat, so its possible that one of those layers is unusually deep and thus is causing to disipate more heat in the mobo

I really hope not, I already had to replace the video card and psu. I changed to psu today from a Coolmax to an OCZ. That droped the temp 1-2 degrees. I am hoping a little more airflow will help. CPU is at about 44c after sitting idle for a couple of hours.

try downloading PC Wizzard or something like that and see what it says. (It'll have a section for heat) What case do you have ?

It's an old Antec case, at least 5 or 6 years old, it's pretty large. 2 fans fans in the back.

any front fans feeding the cpu cooler with fresh air? that's pretty important, or a size vent fan depending on which cooler your using.

New Jersey shouldnt be all that hot yet. My motherboard temps are at 29 C on PC Wizzard and on PC probe so its the same. But I'm running a 1200 case 3 fans in front one on top and one on back. Plus water cooled. Yea I would say get some fans running through front to back if possible.:) I'll turn on my other puter and see what that reads. Two 80 mm fans in back and one 120mm fan in front. Can compare with yours its an older case that I modified to put fan in front. :toast:

Just makes you wonder how hot it will get in July / August.

It's an Antec SX830/840 case. It's got two fans in the back of the case. There are slots in front for two more fans, I've never had to use those yet.

My mobo temp is 22c with room temp being 21c, I'd have to say 45c is too hot. I would take the stock cooling off, replace the thermal rubbish and remount.

It's passively cooled with copper tubing, I'll have to add a couple of front fans and see what that does.

So is the cooling on my P5Q Pro with the exception of a small 40mm fan on the NB, but even without that temps are only 27c.

Yes, that's close to mine. It was running idle last night for about 5 hours, CPU was 42C, mob was 44C. Then I played Half Life 2 Ep 2 for about 45 minutes. The CPU was 44C, mobo was 45C. That's what the Asus Probe II software said. I'm going to give PC Wizzard a try later, I'm not at home now.

45C (113F) isn't that hot. That is what the PWM on my abit NI8-SLI is right now. CPU is 100F and SYS is 91F, or so the abit uGuru utility reports. The PWM limit is set at 176F (80C).

I have been watching the temperatures the last few days since I installed 8 GB of DDR2 PC-6400. The motherboard auto configured the memory at 800 MHz even though the manufacturer says the maximum is 667 MHZ.

To be honest, my laptop idles at those temps. Your good. The problem with older boards is that they use larger architecture on the NB and SB which produces more heat. If it is possible, lower the voltage on your NB and maybe that may help, but I am not sure if that will cause stability errors. Knock it down a notch and stress the hell out of it see if it is stable. If it is, check your temps and also maybe knock the voltage down on more notch. I do not know what your stock voltages are, but you may be able to get some cooler temps with lower voltage.

Just to update, I put two 80mm fans in the front of the case sucking air in, that is in addition too the two in the back that are blowing air out.

It is runnning as I write this at 39c for the mobo and 40c for the CPU. The highest I've seen the mobo get to is 43c. So the addition of the front fans has cause a drop of 5 to 9c.

I paid $8.53 for the two fans w/shipping from Newegg.

Good job. >.> I got some really high airflow through my case (208 in and 220 out). Dropped my temps by almost 5C on everything :D Also, my ultra kaze on my CPU helps eat the the heat.
