Best sub $100 card

As I finish up my first build my last obstacle is a graphics card. I'm looking to purchase a 1440x900 monitor and want to know some suggestions on what would be a good option as far as graphics cards go. I plan on playing mainly counter-strike: source but will be looking to play newer games in the future. Crossfire will also be an option down the road. I'd like to keep the price of the card around or below $100 if at all possible.

The HD4830 is definitely your best bet, my only hesitation would be that they will likely be discontinued in the near future, makeing finding a second for Crossfire difficult.

What if I stepped up my budget a little? Keeping it in the low $100s. What could some options be then?

Sub 100$ 4830 would be the best call. For just a bit over 100$ you can get a 4850. If it were me I would "bite the bullet" and spend a few more green backs and get a 4850.

the 4850 will give you those extra shaders that the 4830 is lacking. That is something oveclocking cant do for you.

No need to step up your budget (well...after mail in rebate anyway

)! All you would need with a 19" widescreen.

You can use any HD 4000 card for Crossfire with it, even the HD 4770 that replaces it.

ATI 4830 hands down, cheap and fast.

I've got the 4830 and I play Tombraider Underworld at very high detail, 4x AA, 1440x900 @ 45-120 FPS. COD: WAW at the same settings @ 45-100 FPS.

Edit:

Do not waste money on crossfire if you're a casual gamer.

Get the 4830, its enough to play games at high detail and at good frames rate for atleast a year and a bit.
In a year if you feel you need more power buy something more powerful then. (a single card solution)

Since you're in the U.S. you can pick up an open box 4850 from newegg for about that price, if you get lucky. That's what I did.

The Sapphire one I got was $95 which is closer to what he's looking for. I didn't know if $105 would be a deal breaker or not.

You've got an existing GPU. Use it for 10 days. Then get the 4750/4770. It's performance is midway between 4830 and 4850 BUT is significantly lower power and will be priced less than $100.

Lower power = quieter fans too.

I would say to go for the HD4850. I love mine. Heck, Erocker has an HD4670 for $50 shipped in his FS thread. With those resolutions, it would probably work fine.

Stick with single card solution, more upgrade options later on, and draw less power.

HD4850 is the way to go.
