I am so confused...:( I've just reinstalled and alredy got a virus, and I only came to TPU, never other sites... Just wondering if I got the Virus from here....
what the virus does is that it keeps on reloading the webpage you're on, and blocks images opened in a new tab and nod 32 cant detect it:cry:

EDIT: the title is "virus from TPU??"

Hardware Firewall Is Critical

I can't see TPU giving you a virus.

It's crucial that you're using a hardware firewall (not just software) of some kind 100% of the time - are you? If not, then Windows is a sitting duck from hackers, especially without the patches. It'll get 0wned well before you can install the multimegabyte patches, trust me.

Oh and Kaspersky is the one to go for, as the others have said.

EDIT: I use it myself. It doesn't take many resources, finds everything and gets malware updates every hour of the day. Note that you shouldn't be lulled into a false sense of security with an unpatched, unfirewalled system. It's the equivalent of fitting your house with a strong front door and leaving the back door wide open.

actualy guys, as WileE told me, Norton/Symantec 2009 is better then kaspersky in all the tests, I did some testing, I was a HUGE nod32 fan(Still am really) But I found that SEP(Symantec Endpoint Security) is really kickass, VERY VERY low cpu use even on systems like a duron900mhz with pc133 ram, low false positives(well anything named keygen it auto assignes a random virus name....... but thats not really uncommon these days)

My advice if you got access to norton 2009, use it.

Why norton 2009 is good and previous nortons sucked:

Microsoft acctualy FORCED symantec to start from the ground up to build 2009, older versions where hooked into the os in BAD ways, they aite performance and also tended to be a real pain to remove, MS actualy told them that they would BLOCK norton on win7 and possibly even block it on vista SP2 if norton didnt go back to source and build an av that didnt suck ass.

Symantec did their work very well, in ALL the comparisons norton 2009/sep11 are tops, nod32 and kaspersky are up there as well, but honestly, I am VERY happy with the new norton/symantec AV, good for high end and low end systems alike, something nortons been lacking for a very long time.

oh but I do still disslike nortons firewall, if you want a good FREE firewall try webroots firewall, it works on any windows version and is very easy to use to block both incoming and outgoing traffic.

get a valid copy for nod32, those *sneaky copys* are allways outdated
btw that box looks like a standard box from javascript, so someone might have just inserted the javascript into a ads on tpu

if nod32 cant see it, most other antiviruses wont to, they all share infomation about viruses

yeah, well, after some research i found the cause for the improovement, ms FORCED them to go back to source/code and build the AV to the new specs for vista/7, as much as people bitch about ms, I am quite glad they forced symantec to re-build their shit!!!

you tryed norton2009 or sep11 yet?

Did the Norton 09 Trial. I was impressed. Still have a valid key for Kaspersky tho, so I went back to it when the trial was up. Might go ahead and buy Norton when this key expires in November.

Another vote for SEP here guys. Bloody awesome, far better than NOD32, mainly because SEP doesn't break Vista SP2 like Nod32 v4 does :p

that's a typical IE threat, you've just been re-routed by the bad guys, nothing to do with TPU. Use Firefox and you'll never see this again, unless you're surfing directly on the bad guys' site.

edit: lol the title of this thread is so funny sorry :D to the OP: you don't get a virus from a site like TPU, period. You can get a virus from just clicking on a link in a Google search, and again, that also requires that you run Internet Explorer (ActiveX disasters :D), although security in IE has improved since 7.0 and Vista.

firefox with extentions is no more secure then patched up IE, infact many extention make it LESS secure then ie8.

the most secure browser on the net is Opera and from what i have read safari and chrome are up there as well.

FireFaux is.....ok, just sucks that you gotta add so many extentions to get it to the point where it's somewhat equil to opera's default state, and then the fact that your install is probbly around 50mb due to added extentions dosnt help either.........

If you wana try the latist build of opera
Click This

its the beta section, just click the head topic and download the version for your os :)

forgot to say, as backup and flash browsers i keep safari4 and chromium around they both are VERY nice once your use to them, and the fact that if one tab/site crashes the whole browser dosnt go down is nice :)
