whats the best power supply for my rig

i ben having problems with my system shuting off sudenly sence i upgraded it look at my specks to see upgrade anyway i think its the power supply i called ultra today and they are sending me a new one but i hurd a lot of bad things about ultra so i think ill buy a new psu so i would like some help picking one out i think i want to go for a 1100 watt or 1200 my cpu cooler draws some power and so does the video card and cpu

you need like 500-600W max LOL that ultra must suck... If you do want to change AND have A LOT of upgradeability, you can get a 750 or 850W from Corsair

kilowatt is kinda overkill for your rig imo. I would get a good corsair 750tx

I'm picking one up off newegg next week to replace my power trio 550. Then when I order my wc'n stuff ill be getting a kilowatt and sending the 750 to my back up rig

Yea, overkill. You wouldnt need to go higher than a 750w. Look for something efficient too if you can.

i can back that up. TX 750 runs my PC just fine, and the OP's wont use as much power as my machine.

As suggested, Corsair or PC Power and Cooling. 750 Watts should be more then enough.

My vote is the Corsair 750W. It's just a beast of a PSU, before my 4830's and PII 720 it was powering two 3870X2's and a 9950 @ 3.3Ghz with ease.

Another nail in the coffin, the Corsair 750 is stellar and rock solid. It's more than enough to handle your single 285, and would be able to handle another.

Not too much.

If you want modular, look at Corsair or Seventeam. If you don't care about modular, but want samething with brass balls, get a PCPower&Cooling Silencer 750W.

Id happily run a GTX 285 on my PSU (Corsair TX 650W)

If you really want modular, a HX620W should be ok too.

EDIT:

Just looked it up, the cooler of yours uses about 50W.

The Ultra X3 1000W is certainly not a bad power supply. It's actually one of the best in 1KW range. While Ultra has some "adequate" power supplies their X3 line of units are really good.

I think a few people in this thread need to do a bit more reading before posting to get a Corsair psu.

If Ultra sends you a new power supply I'd keep it. You payed for a really good unit and it makes no sense downgrading it to some 750W or just a Corsair power supply for that matter.
