I know it's "only a few clicks" away, but I find it's easier when it's all just one site. I know this is a tech site, but I don't see the problem with having GN on this site. People are lazy, a few clicks is a pain in the ass compared to just going to the GN on this site.

Oh for the love of......... Do you surf the internet at all? Do you ever stray away from TPU or do you groan in despair at having to move your 1 finger with such effort as to click away. When I was your age I had to go to the library to learn about nonsense and crazy pictures and such and I had to walk in a foot of snow and hail. Seriously though, if I see one more person complain about how they are so inconceivably lazy that they can't manage to click an extra time, I'm going to suggest that they simply reside to giving up their bodies and becoming a vegetable, and hopefully someone else who doesn't want to have everything spoon fed to them can actually make use of it. It's just, I just, it boggles the mind.......

The decision is from the owner of the forum. It's not up to anyone else to decide.

I really thought TPU was for the users.

Honestly though I don't post a lot on GN so it wont destroy my desire to use TPU regardless of location.

When it comes to making a thread, maybe the extra 15 seconds it takes you to find the right place for it is long enough for you to realize that a 50 Hitler post in a brand new thread isn't the smartest idea.

Here's the quick fix. Open TPU and go to the forums. Open another tab or browser window and go to GN.net. Put them side-by-side. Now it looks like you are on the same website and the world will once again regain it's equillibrium.

I like the fact that the new GN is grouped by topics. I think things will be tweeked over time as people request things, but overall I give it a thumbs-up.

@ZZZ : TPU is for the users. That's why it is the way it is today. Many changes have been made over time to accomodate good user suggestions and requests. I am sure W1zz will take into account any suggestions for GN.net and make changes accordingly. It is, in the end, his decision though.

When GPU was up, there were many, many discussion, in both the comment sections and in the staff lounge, on ideas for the site and ways to make it appealing and useful. Unfortunately, no one had a clear vision on the direction that GPU should ultimately take and W1zz did not want a half-baked, or just another gaming clone, site associated with TPU. I must say I agree with him. To be honest, I could never quite nail down a solid idea on how to make it stand out from the other 4 trillion gaming sites. I still ponder it constantly, though. Maybe some day I will have a GPU epiphany that W1zz agrees with and it will return.

Generalnonsense.net is a resource, use it. It only takes ~5 minutes to create your account, and you get to use that forum for everything you probably felt restricted about here at TPU, plus everything you'd use TPU's GN forum for (except what's prohibited in the guidelines there, not much). Also, I'm for the idea that TPU's GN has to be closed at some point. It's redundant.

"I don't want two accounts" is a lame excuse. When you have oodles of time to spend on TPU's GN, you surely have the time to create an account there.

I have to disagee yeah there are a number of threads you woudnt see here but there a number wich would fit right in. Also GN has its limits there have been the odd thread thats been deleted its a legitimate forum and like Bta says takes only a few minutes to sign up and seeing as many of us here are members of numerous forums i dont see the big deal.

General Nonsense sub-forum is for anything that isn't tech, which very much qualifies as "nonsense" in context of this being a tech forum.

Also GN.net is good for every thread that you'd otherwise post in the GN here, and what you just listed (except nudity, profanity, and porn). It's not like GN.net is for 18+ only. Yes there is a sub-forum dedicated to drugs and firearms, but its not a place where 13 year olds get to know where and how to buy crack. Again, you choose what you want to see. If you want porn, nudity, sex and guns, you already know how to get it with Google. So that's still a weak argument on why GN subforum should remain here.

Because this is tech site, where non-tech threads needn't exist.

But since there's a general nonsense sub-forum here (which is a waste of money since it's not tech-related, using your own logic), there can be a generanonsense.net that holds a broader scope for general discussions.

The general chat/non-tech threads go to GN.net.

Also, to answer your "waste of money" argument, notice there's not a single ad on technpowerup forums. So if W1z doesn't need money from Techpowerup forums, he doesn't need it from another forum. The same physical server hosts both sites, so it's close to zero expenditure. Our server has enough juice to host a forum as big and growing as XtremeSystems, so to the server it's just like handling TPU with a few more IOs.

Most "other" tech stuff can go in General Hardware, but it would be nice to see some sub-forums under it for accessories like monitors, sound cards, cams, etc., just so the differing types of things get grouped together. Of course, it's pretty easy to find stuff using the search function.
Either way, I'm good with the current layout/setup.

I can't think of tech things that wouldn't fit under General Hardware or General Software. That pretty much covers it.
