Fried mobo - can you identify the damage?

OK, this is not an emergency or anything, I was just curious. I know some of the components on a mobo, but for the most part I'm like the blonde popping the hood of her car to see what's wrong. :laugh:

Here are some pix. Sorry the focus is off - zooming in macro mode is a little tricky. In the front one you can see that one of the SMT's has burst. On the back pic, you get an idea of how big an area was affected.

Note: The temps on this ran hot from day one - over 100C. It was so wacked, I figured there was a problem with speedfan for this mobo (Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H - POS). Welp, I guess not.

This is my first fried mobo. Do I get a prize?

I doubt its repairable.... as you probobly blew through some traces inside the board... (motherboards are usually made up of 4+ PCB layers laminated together)

on the other hand congradulations on cooking your first board.!

that looks bulged up, like you left a standoff under the motherboard where one shouldnt have been and its bent hte board out of shape.

Yeah, the heat cook one layer off - you can see it in the photo where the board looks all raw and pink. Hehehe.

Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H. It's the 3rd GB mobo I've had to trash. I've probably killed other mobos, there just wasn't as much forensic evidence.

Tru dat. I think the board was fakakta from the beginning. I had it up to around 120C w/ a mild oc and had to put it back to stock. I've got to get one of those point and shoot thermometers.

how long did you use that board?

I could have grilled on it, but the grease would have caught fire.

I used it for about 6 months I think.

Possible, but I've done that before and those mobos are pretty springy.
