DDR3. it already is. intel has two sockets that support it (soon to be three), and AMD has one.

I voted USB 3.0 as the connection stretches far beyond the "Desktop DDR3" market. what device doesn't have a usb connection plus it will open the door for millions of new useless devices.

USB 3.0 will take longer to adopt, merely because of its high bandwidth. a single PCI-E 2.0 lane provides 250MB/s (each way), and USB 3.0 can use that for a single port.

USB 3.0 will be held back cause it'll take a few generations for it to become standard on motherboards... it wont happen overnight, but it will happen.

I say DDR3. It's not that expensive as it was before, hell you can get a good 6GB kit for not much more than a DDR2 4GB kit.

the operating system is not what predicates the presence of SSD drives, but the price of the SSD's. the majority of consumers go for whats cheaper.

were you around for the transition from USB 1.1 to 2.0? it took a long time.

the question isnt "which will be more prevalent" but "which will be prevalent FIRST"

DDR3 is already used in every i7 build, most PII builds, and 10% of other 775/AM2 builds.
SSD's are still too expensive to justify the cost per size, although pricing has gone down considerably on both SSD and standard HDD's. The entire HDD market has declined in the $/GB. Good news for us :D Anyone remember what a 1TB drive was when it first came out? Now there $90!

And USB3.0 wont be out until next year so there's nothing further on that yet. By then SSD's will be cheap enough and DDR3 will be mainstream.

yes but look how much of tech uses usb today, and the market is only groving!!! so this time it will be more accelerated,so it is not like usb 1.0 to 2.0:p!But as usb 3.0 comes with the AM3 and the new i7 and i5 boards it will be pretty even on those two:) BUT i will stick with USB 3.0 Because the tech quantity that uses usb as there main connector is just so massive;)

I see your point Planet, but since USB 3.0 wont be out full developed until the end of the year(if that) and USB 3.0 devices wont see the market until mid 2010 it's hard to say firmly that existing DDR3 and SSD wont take off before then.

The HDD market has advanced greatly within the last year I would fair to say that it will be a hard gamble to bet against SSD vs DDR3.

The memory take off is debatable, just look at the price of DDR1. It's more expensive than slower DDR2 because the amount of people who look to "upgrade" their machine. Since DDR3 has already came down in price well over the last year I think that will be widely accepted faster than the existing expensive SSD market.

Again these are just opinions but hey thats what open forums are for. State your opinion and anything else you can take it or leave it. :toast:

DDR3 will be main stream . DDR2 will still remain as old computers still use them ( like mine ) .
Progress and movement forward are the key though so all of it will be "old" soon enough .

i think you're missing the entire point of this thread.

"which of these technologies will become commonplace first"

not which ones the best compared to previous generations, or which has the most improvements over its predecessor.

Mainstream adoption? Why does DDR3 have so many votes, consumers don't even know what a DDR is lol

Mainstream adoption? Why does DDR3 have so many votes, consumers don't even know what a DDR is lol

because its the most likely to be widely adopted first. SSD's are small, and size matters. USB 3.0 requires motherboard integration (and thats 2nd gen i5/i7 boards at the earliest), while DDR3 is already widely used (if not the dominant memory type yet)

i think you're missing the entire point of this thread.

"which of these technologies will become commonplace first"

not which ones the best compared to previous generations, or which has the most improvements over its predecessor.

i think YOU missed my point:rolleyes:(IT IS NOT ABOUTH THE THREAD):shadedshu
