So I installed 7, tried to run my Crossfire and 9600gt as a PPU but the physx option does not show up unless i disable the 3870 in device manager... I'm running the 9.5 catalyst and the 185.85 Forceware. I haven't tried any other catalyst drivers but i've tried a number of Forceware drivers. What other catalyst drivers are out there for 7? I go on amd's site and the 9.5's are the only ones that they show under 7.

some people suggested running the nvidia card as the primary (booting from it), enable physx.

Then you enable the ATI on a secondary monitor, before swapping it to the primary. it should work until you restart.

Haha, yeah... i'd like it to work after every restart. Funny thing is i open nvidia control panel with device manager open, disable 3870 and the physx pops up in the CP. So i enable it and go back in and enable the 3870 and boom, it disappears again. I had this problem before and it was an Nvidia driver not cooperating... I'm thinking it might be the 9.5's though. I'm running 9.4's on XP with crossfire and the 9600gt and it works great. I would really like to see what my setup will do on vantage and in 64bit gaming... I'm really digging 7 though, just hope I can get this going!!

its just that this 'feature' with two cards, only works in XP. it was never designed to work in vista or 7.

I was afraid of that... really thought some people got it to work on 7. I know they had issues but they did finally get it to in vista somehow. They were using beta versions of 7 though, before RC came out... Along with beta drivers.

Lol, it's a limitation of Windows 7 and has nothing to do with Nvidia drivers. Blame Microsoft as they apparently won't allow two separate video drivers.

Haha, so they work in 7? Must be something to do with the Nvidia card wanting to display... seems like SOMEONE could make a driver based on the Ageia one for the GeForce cards so they won't display... Anyone?

Just a plain jane Ageia PPU I'm assuming... Opposed to a GeForce card that does it better :p but hey, if it doesn't work in the newest of OSes then which one is in fact "better" lol

Jeremy

Edit: It works :D at least in Fluidmark!!! I used the vista 185.20 Nvidia drivers and the vista 9.4's. Had my 3870's intalled and running, then installed the 185.2's without the physx software. Rebooted, then installed physx 8.11.18. I try to open the control panel and it sends a windows error... i go into fluidmark and it gives the same error, but when i run fluidmark it runs in hardware mode... but only 3K due to my overclock not being present because i need to get rivatuner working!!

Edit 2: I extended the display in CCC, not windows. Just did a reboot and still works :D!!!

what i meant was that nvidia drivers caused alot of problems on vista, so i dont want the same thing happening to win7 :)

http://www.pcmech.com/article/nvidia-the-cause-of-30-of-vista-crashes/

While they were "accurate" in saying nVidia drivers were identified in 30% of blue screens, however they don't talk about the fact that beta drivers were a large part of the 30%, and the fact that nVidia is probably one of the only hardware manufacturers that freely release beta drivers to the public. And at the time, you were very lucky if you found a beta driver from ATi, Intel, or Microsoft. Instability of beta drivers is an accepted risk that people know about before they install them, and really shouldn't have been considered, but they were. The numbers would be very different if they ignored crashes from non-WHQL drivers.

So take those numbers with a big grain of salt...

The interface is definitely better, but I've definitely had better luck with my Ati cards working with games/Windows than Nvidia drivers.....

Infact the GF4 ut2k3 bug remains unfixed. :shadedshu

Haha, so they work in 7? Must be something to do with the Nvidia card wanting to display... seems like SOMEONE could make a driver based on the Ageia one for the GeForce cards so they won't display... Anyone?

Jeremy
Need to get on nVidia to do that. If you only want to use the card for Physx, they need to give us a driver that treats it as a coprocessor instead of a display adapter. It would completely eliminate any of these issues.
