Extreme Budget Build

Well I put something together on Newegg, Curious if anyone can configure something within the parameter's. Budget is $275 or below, doesn't need a video card. The lower power the better(no itx.) Amd or Intel doesn't matter to me, computer will be used for word processing and internet not a whole lot else as far as I'm aware of. No accessories just the computer. Dvd drive must be SATA, no OS

What I put together:
Lite-on DVD burner: $27 (Newegg's choices are real slim right now)
Rosewill micro ATX with PS: $54.99 (Used case before psu worked fine)
Western digital 250gb: $47
A-data 2x1 ddr2 800: $28.99 (Never had an issue with these kits used many of them)
Intel E1400 with ECS G31: $83 (Decent motherboard, never had an issue with ECS)

Totals to $250.53 shipped to 27616.

Buy some used ram and hd from FS forums here - might get better deal...

say $20 ram shipped and even a used 74gb raptor for around that price...

No need for a raptor especially for a very basic especially considering that the person that will be using it, is upgrading from a Pentium II machine

Raptor is overkill. Whats the point of a raptor with just a normal system? I say get a m3a78-em motherboard and a AMD Processor. Ill be back in a second let me see what I can throw together.

See even with the m3a78-em open box and a 4850e, budget is cutting it close, for what I imagine wouldn't be too big of a performance gain. Especially considering there's no free shipping on that board.

Even at that point I might as well drop the 4850e for the 7750 for $4 more.

If storage size is not an issue for a hd and the price is about the same, why not a used raptor?

I did that for a family member's rig for the hell of it and it is a lot snappier and loads/seeks faster - basically less painful for me to use when i go visit their house, lol!

Might not come around for that price but there are some $20 shipped 2 x 1gb ram I've seen lately in forums...

The 7750 is a great processor. I have mine at 3.2Ghz 24/7 and with my Arctic Freezer Pro I get amazing temps. I have seen it drop to 19C Idle and highest I have ever seen was around 38C. Getting to 3.2GHZ was as easy as walking across the room. Just bump multiplier to 16X and forget about it!

The 7750 will generate too much heat for the case to exhaust, unless underclocking it a great deal.

I can see where you are coming from. But a raptor is unnecessary. When he get get 3X the space and get it new with a warranty and all that good stuff.

But I really will recommend getting a different motherboard. Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, somewhere along those lines. Let me see what I can find.

Again lack of free shipping, and the lack of combo deal, will increase it to at or over budget. Sadly enough it really doesn't have much room for slack.

Will be using same chipset on intel side. So really comes down to quality of the low end boards.

MSI has better quality than ECS if thats what your asking. Well I would go AMD. That have cheaper and better low end parts. This is not a fanboy comment. It is a comment from a budget guy. AMD has better upgrade paths also. If you can try to get a AM2/AM2+ board.

HD3200 is absolutely amazing onboard. Ive played L4D and COD4 on it. Settings were not that high but FPS was great 25-40 in most.

Why not go with a Celeron 430? Can't really beat 35w in terms of power usage, and it will be fine for what the machine is going to be used for.

You already have the case, the power supply and the stuff you need for the basic. M3A78-CM like mine is 120$ I have a Athlon X2 4600+ 2.4 gigs cpu for sale at 50$ and for the sata dvd they sell it a 40$ add the rame cheap one are 50$ maximum for a kit of 2 sticks of 1 gig each. 120+50+40+50 You have your rig and on the M3A78-CM everything is onboard...8.1 sound, 256 megs HD radeon 3100, gigabit lan. and Cool and Quiet funtion of AMD to keep it to lower level of noise and heat and power when not needed.
