_jM's 3rd 09 rig??

OK.. most of you know that I have gone through more hardware this year than most of us go through socks... Thing is.. I want to go back to a Mid tower and I really like This one here And I am a fan of the new i7's.. but Im leaning to using the MSI 790FX-D70 AM3 board with 2/3 4890's or just dual 4870X2's?

Here's the deal.. I found someone to buy my current machine for $2500 out the door (just the case/hardware as is)
So for that much cheddar.. I could build one bad ass AM3 with a custom Water Loop or go i7 and just get what I need and add water later on.... hmmm decisions decisions

So I am here for one reason... FEEDBACK.. I need real comments that could sway me to or fro for either AM3 or i7... I love intel.. but im no fanboi...

You guys know my love for red+black cases and this one is just plane cool as hell off the shelf.. But there are more cases to be had and better looking too. So... please hit me back with some constrictive criticism please

i7 for sure... it'll cost you like... 50~80$ more only... with 2500$, you could get 2 i7 systems man!

now does this 2500$ include monitor or not? I will propose you with some choices tomorrow, but I need to know if this includes monitor... oh and this also includes mouse/keyboard mousepad/headset/speakers ? you want cathodes? Blu-ray drive/burner or isi DVD burner fine? want SSDs?

I like it A LOT. 1600 7-7-7-24 1.65v sounds very awesome. I bet with a little voltage they'd do 1800 cas6!

As for the cards, dual 4890's seem to be the fastest video config you can go with right now. Or you know, there's always 4 4830's/4850

Wait a few days before you buy tho, that AMD TWKR edition thing could be interesting. But as of right now I'm thinking it's a hoax.

LOL mlee.. its in my blood... soo many options! I pretty much have a bad ass 775 rig and Im done with that socket or intel for the time being.. I need something new to keep my interest


All I need is the case and what I want inside fellas.. The guy just wants the tower as is... but with the case I picked out I think a AM3 rig would be the option.. If I decied to go i7 Im thinking of going with the Silverstone FT01-BW and a DFI board... I hear their X58 boards are jam-up.. but the Giga boards are nice OCers as well..

Oh and 1 more thing, I will be using a 1k psu for this one as well... not sure If Im going Enermax or staying with the trusty ol' Corsair HX1000 watter....


Also guys.. I was talking with a friend of mine and I might set up a bench table and grab up Koolance's new LN2 pot for some DICE or LN2 if i can find some here in this shit hole of a town I live in....

I suggest you go i7... Why not i7 with that case? The DFI board has a way too high failure rate... get the gig ud5 or perhaps the ECS

I still have my DFI. I've wanted to get rid of it to try more things and some times to raise money but the bad press has kept people from grabbing it up. The tech station rocks. Today I hot swapped GTX295s with ease, changed HDDs, moved my PSU around, and without having my water cooling in the way. It's great to have on a table top because it's hard as hell to get stuff/food on your bench if it's above your elbows/almost shoulder height.

Here's yet another repost of what I did today on the DFI, on my tech bench, yadda yadda...

Just so we're clear I sell things but I still play and I find a way to keep doing what I love doing even if I miss parts of my old machines.

See my problem is.. Im not sure what in the hell I want to do.. see this will be my last bigg buy prolly for some time and I really want to go over to water cooling this run around.. Also the guy who is buying the rig called me today again to tell me he still wants it, but it was one of those "Im not sure when" kinda things. Very nice... see thats the shit that makes me want to go over to i7! But like I sai bfore.. this is going to be the "last" build for quite a while, summers here and we are going to Virginia and what not. Also I will be starting school this fall so thats a big wallet drainer there too!

And I know how you feel about missing older parts you've sold in the past! I just traded my HIS 4850's to blkhogan and after talking to him the other day it makes me want them again!

i7 is slated to be replaced by a higher end 6 core in the same socket, but really there doesn't seem to be talk of a more powerful proc for a while. Especially to OC. These things just fly with a little nudge. I could chat up the i7 all day with how much I've enjoyed mine. The benchmarks are nice. Just computing/surfing/crunching/and the bjillion other things I do just function like they're on a well thought out platform. Those Red guys will tell you the same, and I believe them too. There's enough power in modern quads to quench a guy's thirst for a while. However long that is seemed a lot longer for me recently just because I saw all the news about the "low-end" i7 being phased out. It just made me glad that I made the jump from my Q9550.

Once this guy actually lets me know if he's bullshitting me or really going to come up with the cash by the end of the month. Then I will start to look further into what I want.. You know how it is when you "think" your getting something better and then something happens and you cant. So I dont want to get too excited yet.. I can still look around and compare my options.. but the main thing is to go to a new/different architecture and be able to OC and keep it for a while at that. And to be able to afford dual or quad crossfire/sli and water cool at the same time.

I mean thats what I want to do, but I want to be able to get a damn good board/mem/cpu and a ssd with cf/sli and all water cooled at the same time.. If I cant afford it with the i7.. then I will wait for the AMD tweaker to come out and scoop up one with the MSI board.
