ATI4890 Aftermarket Cooler

I just got a 4890 from a friend for free

. My only problem is the fan is really loud and note that great. I want something quieter and cooler. I heard that the 4870 Coolers work with it. I thought I would ask here first. Im gonna try to clock this sucker to 1Ghz tonight. Its stock at 925.

Yeah, 4870 coolers will work cause it's pretty much the same PCB layout.

Scythe Musashi is TERRIBLE for a 4890. Your VRM's will go past 100*C at load. I had one the stock cooler cools the VRM's a lot better! IMO air cooling isn't realy worth it on 4890's, I would either stick with stock or go to water. But if you insist on air cooling, get one of these for your VRM's and make sure you ahve direct air flow on it.

I think the duorbs are preety good if you have a fan controller, if not forget it as they are quite loud at full speed. It keeps my 4850 at around 60 on lowest fan speed when gaming.

i liked the performance... can't the remember gains...
then got rid of my 4870 for (2) gtx 295's..
but,
i just got the 4890 too...
so far... its just STOCK...
