Upgrade Advice

I have a choice between upgrading to a Q9550 or a HD4890

What do you think would be better for my current setup ?

Both would offer incremental improvements. Your CPU is fast (even today), and DX 11 cards are just around the corner so I would recommend waiting a few months and then deciding. Besides a Q6600 and a 4870 isn't a bad setup.

Yeah that really wouldn't be much of an upgrade, more like a sidegrade. Stay with what you've got for a while longer. Or you can upgrade and send your old stuff my way :rockout:

Its like this. I can sell my 4870 for like atleast 150$ in my country. So I'd only have to put in like 50$ to buy a 4890

Edit : The soundcard idea seems to be good too. I'll have to do some price research on that :toast:

That would be tempting. If you have nothing else better to spend $50 on, and nothing to save $50 for I would say get it if you REALLY want it.

Getting which part would give me the most increase in performance ?

If I get the Q9550 I'd get it to at least 3.6-3.8
the 4890 would be at least 950 on the core

Well the 4870 should be find on your 19'. I would go for the CPU again. Overclocking would be fun and the Q6600 would make for a nice crunching rig :rolleyes:

After much thought I think getting a new CPU would give you a more noticeable boost in performance.

Games are more CPU reliant at low resolutions, and after looking at a few review graphs online on the 4870 and 4890 are usually seperated by only a few FPS in most games (except Crysis) at low resolutions.

i say stay on what you have now cuz there is no big jump in performance whis this upgrade , but 50$ more for 4890 look good deal

did you think it is good idea to replace most overclock quad core CPU with 8M cash with other quad core with 12M cash , did this extra 4M cash deserve this extra money , and you know it is not a normal quad cpu it is Q6600
