I'd been having some strange lock ups recently on my OC'd GTX 285 and from what I can tell, temps were the issue, back when I first got it and OC'd it, ambient temps were 5-10*C cooler, now under load its running about 7*C hotter. This has caused me to reduce my OC to:
725 / 1512 / 1350
And thats at 100% fan, it passes 1 hr of OCCT. Now I know shaders biggest hate is heat, and when i kept temps below 70*C on my GTX 260 I was able to get another 30 MHz out of them.
So I'm looking at going aftermarket on my GTX 285 so that temps arent holding back the OC, atm, on 100% fan, temps top out at 75*C with 25*C ambient.
Now I know the accelero is capable of knocking around 25*C off GPU temps, but what Im worried about is all the other temps.
I didnt touch the accelero with my GTX 260 due to the terrible VRM temps, however upon reapplying the TIM to my GTX 285 earlier today, I noticed that the main VRM area is not in any contact with the cooler.
But what gets me is that Artic Cooling says its fine to run the memory and VRM without sinks provided the fan is on 80% or higher.
I'd like to know if anyone on TPU is running an Accelero GTX 280 on a GTX 285 as per the instructions and if everything seems to operate okay.
Let me know your thoughts
