Best Intel Processor for Maxing out skt775 Mobo

What CPU do you think is best for finding a board's max OC? It needs to be cheap, and have NO known FSB wall.

I have been suggested both an E2140 and an E5200. Any other ideas?

The purpose of this processor will be to pop it in the board, drop the multi to 6x, and crank the FSB until it won't crank no more. The chip probably won't even be used for benches, although if possible, both dual core and quad core benches for each board would be sweet but VERY time consuming).

Definitely NOT an E2000. Get the most expensive E7000 you can get! I was hitting 500-550 fsb with my E7200 and P5Q-Pro. An E8500 would probably be the best, but they're pricey.

+1 to that. Some e5200's clock well others seem to be low clockers. But most if not all e7xxx chips seem to clock very well and arn't to expensive.

Remember that performance means nothing to me. I want to use this processor to find the board's absolute max under stock cooling, then use my X3210 for benches.

Also, if you have one and would be willing to sell it to me cheap or donate it for putting it to good use in TPU reviews, I would appreciate it

I'd go for an e7xxx chip personally if you need it cheap

If thats the case, DO NOT use an E5200; they usually have a relatively low FSB wall compared to most other CPUs you can get. Something from the E7x00 or E8x00 series would be much better, or even a Xeon equivalent.

e8400... had over 600mhz fsb out of mine.

Definatly NOT an e5200 if high FSB is your goal.

You'll have a hard time trying to pry that out of infrared's hands :laugh:

I couldn't comment on the e5xxx and e7xxx but my 8400 and 2 8500's that i've had all went fsb532+
I think you'll need to buy second hand just so you could be sure on the potential of the chip or sacrifice buying a brand new dud.

+1 for the E7200. Been running it for quite a while now. I know I could push it a lot more if I wanted to. Multiplier is low compared to others, at 9.5x Max. but I know thats not what your interested in. Good luck with the benching, interested to see what you can come up with.
