That wasn't the question, but you are correct.

Actually, I think it was. "Best" could refer to Price/Performance.

I would also like to point out that PCIe2.0 graphics cards are backwards compatible with PCIe1.0 slots.

You would be better off with Quadro. But, that's incredibly expensive unless you flash an ordinary card to a Quadro, thus making it possible to use Quadro drivers. And.. I don't think you're looking for so much trouble.

They are both unfathomably weaker than the cards we suggested.

No they are not. It can be helpful with video encoding, but so can ATi Stream.

Quadro's are expensive, but you can usually find them really cheap on E-bay

gtx 260 216sp for the best performance . Hd4870 512 ddr , if you don`t want to spend extra cash . No big difference between HD4870 and GTX260 (standard editions) in performance . One card will give you better performance in one game , the other card will perform slightly better in another game title . If you are looking for a standard card , and pay less for it , go for HD4870 512 edition .

erocker is right cuda is not very useful in apps for animation, but I know for a fact that ATI non FireGL cards perform much better than nvidia's non Quadro in these applications

so will they run fine with pcie1.0 slots

Your system specs say your using a X58 motherboard and has PCI-E 2.0 unless your talking about another motherboard and even in that case you should be fine.

Well, considering how he's asking if he should buy a 4870 and he already has one, I must assume he's talking about another rig, or the one in his sig is only a blueprint.
