Should I upgrade my GPU? If so, to what?

Hi all, I am considering getting rid of my 9800GX2 and getting an Asus 4890 TOP or an MSI GTX275 Twin Frozr.

Do you think it would be worth it, and if so, Which would be the better card to get?

i would say NO! wait for dx11 cards although the price will be exspensive when they are released. you have a good card i recently upgraded my card but i had a 8800gts 640 so it was worth the upgrade for me. But still play the same games and it doesnt feel much different maybe higher scores in 3dmark and crysis, but really who gives a shit about that.

at this point in time I have to agree with Reefer86.... you still own a great card and there is no need for you to change to another, right now! I would say wait until C'stmas and get a new dx11 gfx

i've always prefered Nvidia, no offence to ATi fans, because my mates got a 4890 and ive heard nothing but good things and the nvidias have always been my weapon of choice.

Keep your 9800GX2. The HD 4890 and GTX 275 aren't going to offer much more performance, but if you had to choose I recommend the GTX 275.

After seeing TPU's reviews on the cards, both the 275 and 4890 were faster in crysis (not by much) and FarCry 2 (by quite a bit)

Both these games are running slower than my 4870 which is why I want to upgrade. working on my budget proved interseting though as I might be able to afford a GTX 285. In case that goes south, keep the opinions coming!

I would say forget the cards and get better memory. Your card overall is not a push over I would wait but if you really want one I would say the 275.

I'll get a DX11 card eventually but im going to wait a while to make sure those cards deliver, but in the meantime, ill upgrade because I am an enthusiast and am constantly wanting to change my PC's innards

don't upgrade right now, the only cards solidly faster than your GX2 are the GTX295 and the 4850/70X2

and nvidia's GT300 is going to be a monster GPU with mimd, you should wait, and ati's new gpu will also be much faster than any current single gpu also(maybe lol).

I´ve had a post on a different thread that fits the same

"I´ve had a 8800GT, 4870X2 and now a GTX295.

I would say sell the GX2 while they are still worth some money and get a GTX275, will be prettier on your rig, then when new DX11 cards come out, build a i7 rig with them. And then either try to sell the PC entirely, or use it as a 2rig for lower end gaming, servering, folding whatever. But this requires bigger pockets"

I have to say that I would not really wait for the first generation dx11 cards i'd wait for the 2nd gen atleast, made that mistake when i bought the 8800 on my system.... ur better off getting the 4890 and getting some serious milage on it, before getting a dx11 upgrade

I say don't upgrade just yet. And don't upgrade to a 1st gen dx11 card. Wait till the dx11 cards to mature more (just like how the geforce 8 series mature with their nth number of changes). Also, it will be a while before we have true dx11 games (I say give a couple of years. Hell! we hardly have any true dx10 games now! Its like 1% of the games out there are dx10!

I would have to agree with douglatins,

If you can i'd try to get the 275 GTX, It would be worth it because as I have said before you would get alot of use out of it....

Building a whole rig however just for a graphic upgrade seem extreme though..

The 9800GX2 is fine. The only possible upgrades are a GTX295, 4870x2, 4890 or a GTX285, and those last 2 I'm not even sure of.
