What should I upgrade my 4870x2 to. I was looking at a single gtx 295, 2 gtx 275's or 2 Asus 4890 top edition cards. I am really learning towards the 4890 top's because of the non reference cooler and the nice clocks I can possibly hit with tweaking the voltage. The gtx 295 is a nice card, I am looking aty that for benchmarking since it seems to beat out 2 4890's in CF when running vantage. Can anyone maybe give me some input, I keep reading reviews and it makes the decision so much harder.

Jake if anything I recommend not buying a new graphics card atm since DX11 and Shader 5.0 are coming with new graphics cards b4 release in September/October by ATI. Hold your bank as there are good things coming if you have recently checked your cookie fortune ;)

Also i just realized that you only had a 21.5 inch monitor...why do you need a bigger card anyways?! a 4870x2 seems a bit overkill for that rez... but if you like all your aa and af i can appreciate that ;)

Both 2xGTX 275 and 2xHD4890 will outperform your HD4870x2 and the GTX 295 . But it won't be a big difference anyway ... 10-20% performance increase here and there . And don't try to buy a hd4870 to crossfire with your x2 . The scaling is crap / The dual HD4890 will outperform you . It`s a waste of money .
At first i was thrilled about the upcoming DX11 cards . Not anymore. But the guys are right .. i don't think you need more than the HD4870x2 a.t.m so i say wait for next gen GPU's ... but if you get good money for your hd4870x2 you can go for dual gtx 275 or hd4890

I was not really planning on spending more than say 100 or 130 to upgrade to two single cards. or a gtx 295. I was not going to drop another 400 to 500 on a card no way not with the newer ones coming soon. Kind of something to hold me over. I have been getting into benching more and more and my 4870x2 is I think maxed out with overclocking I can not get it to much higher, I managed to get it to 870/950 when benching and it is stable and no artifacts. I just like the 4890 top look and seems like a good upgrade, but for the 100 bucks I was just gonna upgrade to newer cards and sell those when the 58xx series comes out. I would get better resale on a 4890 in November than a 4870x2, well I would hope.

The 4890 wouldn't be an upgrade from the 4870x2. Yes it runs at a higher stock clock than the 4870, but you're overlooking one major factor. The 4890 is still only a single GPU card while the 4870x2 is of course a dual GPU card. The 4890 would actually be a downgrade.

If you plan on getting 2 4890's and running them crossfire that's a different story.

Now if they came out with a 4890x2 or even better when the DX11 cards arrive a 5870 or 5890 X2 version, then that would be an upgrade.

None of them worth the upgrade from 4870x2 unless you get a good deal. Hey I see you went with Gigabyte instead of DFI for your new mobo.
