OCZ GameXStream OCZ850GXSSLI ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 850Watts Power Supply

Pros and cons.
I like both power supply's but the OCZ seems to have a bunch of power failures in it's reviews. I have the 600 watt version now with zero troubles and it's rock solid and the 850 version has more SLI connectors. However, the OCZ is not modular the Thermaltake is and the Thermaltake has one very large rail 60A the OCZ has 4 combined 72A. The Thermaltake is designed for my case and is the exact same size as the OCZ but the OCZ is 850 watt and the Thermalright is 750 watt. From the reviews I read the Thermaltake is silent and my current OCZ is not noisy unless stressed and then it's still quiet. The OCZ has a fancy blue LED , a rebate and a USB HUB included in the purchase. The OCZ has a 3 year warranty and the Thermaltake a 5 year warranty. In a reviews I just read the Thermaltake handled two 4870x2 in crossfire no problem and the OCZ handled a 295 gtx. What do you think boy's (please no suggestions on other power supplies size is a issue here)

i have an OCZ Gamextreme 700watt and its been solid for a year and a half. 4 rails as well but my 12v is running 12.28v or something. i thk OCZ makes solid PSU's personally. Modularity ifyour picky also adds more resistance to the line compared to non modular PSU's, the only benefit of modularity that i can see of is it makes cable management easier. I'd get the OCZ simply bc i have one, know it works and is solid, and less resistance since it isn't modular, and it is a stronger PSU.

Look at the failure rate in the reviews listed kinda scares me and I have the same power supply but the 600 watt version. PS adding a second 260 gtx and believe it or not my current PSU can handle them but it doesn't have any connectors left. It has had two 2900 xts cossfired in it and a 3870x2 without trouble so OCZ does make good stuff.

i see those and there are a fair amount of ill reviews, but the other PSU only has 2 reviews so who knows if its failure rate could be just as bad. Either way i have an OCZ psu of the same series, you yourself have one of their PSU's, both are solid. The PSU is made 80% efficient, and well it's made to run at its specifications that it has. On another note the reviews for the other PSU are 1day-1week and 1week-1month, so both have only owned it for a fairly short time. There also needs to be calculated human error's. The reviews for the OCZ PSU have some longevity to then but even then i don't rely on newegg reviews too heavily for hardware choices as you never know the reviewer's level of knowledge. Just a side note, i ran my 700watt with 8800GT's SLI for like 7 months(before killin them on oc's XD). I'd purchase the OCZ over the other simply because of my good experience with my current PSU.

and i mean hey the poll speaks for itself :p

I'd go for the Thermaltake. While the OCZ is more powerful overall it does have one major drawback: 4 12V rails at 20A each.

Some higher end videocards can overload a 20A rail with ease under more stressful situations, and the other 3 don't compensate when one is overloaded.

You're better off with the single 60A 12v rail of the thermaltake because no single component should be able to draw enough to overload that.

I think you need to go learn about power supplies. A single 12v line is what is wanted compared to multiple lanes.

my understanding is when one rail maxes the others add power to the rails as needed.

Not necessarily sometimes you'll have to switch cables around so it won't pull from the same 12v line. Only certain power supplies will do the hybrid 12v stuff I believe.

I'd get the thermaltake. I'm pretty sure it's channel well built, the OCZ is probably FSP, which is good but CWT is my personal favorite when it comes to modular stuff.

OCZ and Power PC are the same company now. Not sure if that makes a difference at all.

It doesn't. OCZ still uses their old OEM's.

Nope, they should but they don't on most power supplies each rail is separate, and the other rails don't compensate during overload situations. Each one supplies 20A maximum and that's it or basically 240 watts of power per rail with the OCZ. If your GPU, or any combination of components on that rail draws more under a full load situation, it will over load it.

Compare that to the 720 Watt of the thermaltake.

The main problem is with multiple rails you never know which components are drawing power off of which rail.

12v with 20amps is 240watts of power. This review shows that peak system draw with a GTX 295 is like 414watts. That's with a GTX 295 so 20 amps should be fine on the 12v line. mind my 12v line is at 12.28 which is 251watts of power and the line stayed consistent through an OCCT run. And since a separate 12v line powers the 2nd pci-e slot SLI and xfire are fine. I thk you could run any card and the line would be fine. And we're not talking about a GTX295 anyways, he's currently running a GTX 260 c216, probly oc'd, which will run well within safe limits of any of the 4 12v lines.

OCZ doesn't make it- SeaSonic does. lol... they are the OEM for PCPC and a few others.

Seasonic, Corsair, PCPC (OCZ is listed under PCPC since OCZ owns PCPC), Sventeam... those are the main ones...

no multimeter yet :p i plan to get one, but i use everest for checking voltage and my OCCT run shows my line not budging at all through the whole stress test. Everest is a respectable software and i know it's not exact but i figure if we rely on realtemp for temps we can for voltages as well to an extent. multi-meter on my to-buy list though

I would go for the single rail.. The ones that I use are 3/4" too long for your use but run 3 GTX260 cards crunching full time.
