My other thread is full of replies, so I fear this would have been over looked. Here are the parts I am getting.

Processor: AMD X3 720 BE

Motherboard: MSI 770-C45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard

Memory: OCZ DDR3-1600 4gb Kit

Case: Antec Three Hundred

Power supply: Rosewill Green Series RG630-2 630W Continuous @40°C,80 PLUS Certified,ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready,Active PFC

Hard drive: Raptor 150gb 10k

Video card: 4850, undecided on brand.

Wireless adapter: Rosewill RNX-G300EX IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Card

What do you guys think? Yes I know I am well over my budget but with this build 2.5 years will be no issue. Feel free to suggest any changes :)

6/10...

Pros
-Decent build but:

Cons
-case can't fit 10.5" cards
-fast but very small and expensive HDD
-weak GFX card
-expensive ram w/ cheap processor
-build will last a year, maybe 1.5 tops, in gaming that build is already on the verge of dogging.

I would recommend:
Cheaper Ram - maybe even 8 GB
CHeaper HDD
Cheaper but roomier case
Much nicer GFX

thats because those are not 10.5" cards. Try to upgrade to a GT200 or a X2 card and you're either gonna have to saw or get a new case.

NZXT beta classic is a better case IMO, but w/e - the point is you need a better videocard and more HDD space if you want that build to last/game.

Basically you need 2 things for gaming: Fast videocard, fast processor...

The difference for everything else is negligible... the difference between 1600Mhz ddr3 and 1333Mhz ddr3 and some 1066DDR2 is 2-3 Frames/sec TOPS. And if you take the price difference between ddr2 1066 and ddr3 1600, and apply it to a good bang/buck videocard (like a refurb gtx 4870 1GB or a GTX 260 216 which are only fractionally more than the 4850) you net a gain of 10-20 FPS.

This applies to the 4890, which is the card I would recommend. Preferably one with a non-stock cooler like a toxic edition from sapphire.

Then clock up the 720, apply some driver tweaks, and tweak game settings for best eyecandy/performance, and you have yourself a nice, lag-free gaming experience.

But that's just my 2c.

Did it bit of research as to what you were looking at, and found the 720 has really really bad combo deals right now. I found a 945 combo with the same mobo, and it's only $5 more than that 720/770 combo. Also, selected a case that will fit a 10.5" card if you ever got one, and it's a cheaper case, found a DVDRW, and selected a bigger and cheaper HDD. With the money I cut off you could splurge for a 4870 really as the HDD switch alone saves you $80 :O

And here is the same build, but with a 4870 (a 1gb version incase you play at 1680 or higher), but it has free shipping, and a mail in rebate, and a free game, cutting cost to $129.99. I would suggest this, that 4870 will gain you far better performance than a 10k rpm HDD, especially coupled with that 945.

And here's the same build with a 4890 if you really wanted to go crazy.

Yeah, that would by far be the most cost efficient/performance machine out of the 3 builds. I had to go back and change them a bit, that other mobo/cpu combo was a AM2+ setup, so added $10 on the build, but still only $5 more than a 720, can't go wrong. Nice thing too is it comes with a game, Wheelman isn't great, but for free, it's def entertaining.

Normally I would suggest a 720 as they are such good performers for the money, but with combo deals right now, I swear newegg is actually trying to give the 945's away. I mean heck with that combo deal, that mobo ends up being $13, and then you send in the $15 MIR, and they actually paid you $2 to take the motherboard with the processor, thats unreal.

Irrelevant, since he's talking about a 4850. The 4800 series is top end of ATI ATM, he wasn't talking about oversized Nvidia cards. Maybe they should learn to build within ATX specs...

Phan knows the 4850's under 10.5", but as with anything in the computer world, keep your mind on the future. Like with this build, it would save him a slight amount to go the AM2+ route, but then it would require a big changeover in the future, so spending a few $$$ more for a current platform is worth it, and picking up a case that can house any videocard def is worth it too, the one in my build I suggested is cheaper, is a great brand name, and fits a 10.5"

You already ordered :( Thats too bad, could have got a way better processor for only $5 more and saved a ton on that HDD :( If you just ordered it tonight, check and see if it shipped, if it didn't cancel that asap, those builds I put up are going to net you a much better performing computer, the 4870 build is very good for a great price.

What about a gtx 260 with 216 cores? Would that be good?

Yeah thats a good card, runs close with a 4870.
