So ps3 slim fact or fiction

does anyone besides me think that IF this is a real thing it kinda looks cheap and like it's hardware failure might be worse than launch 360? i don't know i like having a bulky ps3 because it feels like its quality the ps3 "slim" looks like it might break if you accidently push on the top of it too much.

i really like the feel of the current ps3? i mean the cooling is great too. i cant imagine this slim version being a good idea the ps3 can get hot and the fan in there is pretty big, and i dont see how there going to cool that tiny thing.

exaclty probably costing them more money to repair broken ones, and they hope to make more money on this, only good thing i see out of this is for the people who bitch about the price.

i think if they designed a slim version of the ps3 it would be fail for the reason that, the coolant would be insufficient and they would have to make there hardware smaller....eh...i dont like the idea, i still got my first gen with mah emotion chip suckas.lol

The Cell CPU (and RSX, iirc) are getting 45nm die shrinks soon, already down to 65nm from the original 90nm- heat is becoming much less of a concern.

When i had a PS3, it as like a heater. Slimming it down will just cause more problems.

Now, recently Sony has just cut manufacturing costs for the PS3, indicated that there maybe a PS3 Slim after all. If they do decided to make it i just hope it runs well.

They'd probably make it a 32nm from the current 65nm meaning it most likely could be passively cooled. That's why I don't think we'll see one for a few more years yet.

Yes but don't forget about the PSOne or PS2 Slim, it's not like this would be Sony's first time doing this. Granted the original PS2 didn't run cool, it wasn't complicated enough to be considered a heater, and the PS2 Slim seemed to run a tad warmer. I actually thought the PS2 slim was quite cool, and when my original died after 3 years, I snagged one at 99.99. Worth it for the classics I keep around...that's the last console I've purchased as I decided PC Gaming is a more enjoyable way for me to go.

I'm sure Sony's PS3 Slim will be a good deal, they have the technology to do it, mfg costs are coming down, and maybe, just maybe they could add some more vga oomph to the new one...granted it'd be kind of aggrivating to orignal PS3 users, but it'd be nice for those going to the new model when it is released. If there isn't a revised and smaller PS3 in the future, Sony isn't continuing it's console trend it has since the original Playstation/PSOne series. It'd just be wrong of them not to imo.

yea that was dated over a year ago, the stuff im talking about is from the past few week/months

i really really hope they dont make it slim, i think if they do it'll loose that "bulk" that "masculinity" i dunno i feel i paid a fair price for what i got and enjoy it, if they release a new one i may just buy it and put it in the room for the Girlfriend and maybe since it'll be "cute" she'll play it more? hmm

There probably won't be a slim PS3 until at least late in 2010 but more likely not until 2011 or 2012. Just like the PS1 and slim PS2, it won't be out until very close to the release of the console to replace it. The only reason why it would be out sooner than that is because of the financial considerations (slim PS3 is so much cheaper to manufacturer than the PS3 that it would stupid not to make it and discontinue the PS3).

I never really liked the slim Playstation designs. Not to mention, if they follow the same trend as they did with the ps2, we'll lose expansion abilities when they shrink it.
