9.8 CAT Huge Performance increase for HD4870x2

The new driver speeds both cards up in Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor. The bottom speed of the Radeon HD 4870 X2 grows up by 47% at 1280x1024!

The Far Cry 2 results are impressive: the dual-processor Radeon HD 4870 X2 is much faster with Catalyst 9.8 than with Catalyst 9.7. If we suppose that Catalyst 9.7 does not enable CrossFireX mode, the Radeon HD 4870 X2 would be slower than the overclocked Radeon HD 4890, but that’s not so. They have the same average frame rate. Thus, the developer must have corrected some bug in the driver, hence the impressive performance boost. And it is in Far Cry 2 that a 50% boost is actually promised in release notes. Unfortunately, there is no performance growth in the FSAA+AF mode.

Amazing results... definitely worth getting!

I tried 9.8 must have installed it wrong or had left over 9.7 stuff. I will try to install it again I guess. Maybe I will get some boost any free boost is fine with me. :toast:

i like em, they boosted my fps performance in CoH from ~31FPS avg to ~40FPS avg with 8xAA @1680x1050 ultra settings. Though i play at 4xAA for constant 40-60fps.

i'ma go do a DX9 and DX10 run in CoH for the hell of it

is CoH multi-threaded at all? i can't understand why your build would outperform mine so greatly with the same settings and at 1920x1080. well then again u used the in-game performance test

CoH is multi threaded, optimised for two cores.

i guess the 3.ghz-3.8ghz cpu and one that is better clock would provide an increase...idk ima run my performance test and see what my results are.

shadedshu The 9.8's are the same as the 9.7's in OpenGL , Furmark takes a big hit! In the 7000+ point range. Tested back to back install :shadedshu:

why so worried about openGL performance? i mean...opengl is kinda obselete or at least not used in pretty much user things. I kno i don't use OpenGL for anything.

Games use it.Benches use it. Some apps ext.

furmark lost score, because furmark could kill ATI cards with bad VRM cooling. the program may as well have been written to kill ATI cards for what it does to them.

ATI slow it down in driver updates, to prevent that.

I think you can just rename the furmark.exe to something else, and ati drivers shouldn't cripple it.
