Install Motherboard Drivers with Windows 7?

Hey guys, quick one here, probably a stupid question but...

I've just moved from XP to Windows 7 and since installing Windows 7 EVERYTHING seems to be functioning? Sound, internet etc. Do i still need to install my motherboard drivers? Everything has already been recognised in my devices.

Go into device manager and check to make sure all drivers are installed. If so, then don't worry about it

Everything seems to be there! ICH10, hard-drive controllers, CPU all recognised etc. Obviously i installed graphics drivers but thats it. How can this be? How has Windows 7 already installed all these devices? :twitch:

I still install drivers from Intel anyway. Windows 7 has a LOT of drivers created by Microsoft for operation and compatibility, but I don't think they are as good as the drivers direct from Intel. You want the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility.

Go into the device manager and look at all your onboard hardware (Realtek Sound, Realtek Ethernet, Texas Instruments Firewire, etc.) and go to the manufacturer's web sites and install their drivers for them. That's what I do anyway. Not necessarily necessary, because basic functionality is provided by Windows 7.

Thanks mate, but there doesn't seem to be Windows 7 support for that Intel Software Utility? Hm, which leads me to another question. I went to the Asus website to download the Asus P5Q Pro drivers and i couldn't find any? Only P5Q Pro Turbo, Deluxe etc. No plain P5Q Pro drivers. Have they been discontinued or something?

No idea on the ASUS drivers.

What do you mean no Windows 7 support? I'm on the RTM and I've had no trouble. If there's not a Windows 7 option, choose the Vista option. Windows 7 has 95% compatibility with Vista drivers.

More than likely Asus will use the same drivers for more than one board. No worries there.

Win7 automatically searches for drivers for just about everything. If device manager doesn't show up anything flagged(yellow alert) then your golden. Most likely you are since if the driver can't be found it would prompt you automatically, or when you turn on that device(ie printer).

Edit, also Vista drivers work almost spot on for Win7. So use your appropriate bit version, 32 or 64 bit drivers for Vista and it should work flawlessly.

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 RC Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads there for additional support and assistance.

I always go out and install the latest drivers from the manufacturers site anyway. The drivers provided by Intel work, but I just like having the latest driver.
