Exactly, some backplates even go around it, but it's hardly a problem and the plate is about 2mm.

xigmatek, notcua and a few other companies will have brackets available on newegg at the time the boards and cpus are launched.

Both my Xigmatek crossbow and the backplate for the Heatkiller went over it.

But either way, the socket backplate is not a problem.

they all have different hole spacings....

775 = 72mm

1156 = 76mm

1366 = 80mm

who knows why they did it but it sure makes for alot of extra work for the cooler manufacturers.

Yep, seems Thermalright has on top version, that would fit LGA 1156 too, if it had longer holes (to slide the mounting bolts).

That's a nice desing, just twist (edit: and flip for S775) to fit And gives the option to upgrade to i7 9xx without cooler change.

That -55% (on motherboard) offer sure would be nice, but throw in expensive CPU, new CPU cooler and some RAM and I'm not that tempted anymore MSI P55-GD65 price here is 156€/£136/$223 (5 available already) and about 50% off those with the discount from UK.

I was really hoping that prices would be slightly lower. It simply just does not make sense. In the current market, you are going to pay more for a 1156 chip than a 1366 chip, and the motherboards seem only slightly cheaper than 1366 boards. So, currently, I have 3 i7 rigs. What incentive would I have to try a 1156 chip? It's too bad, because I'd love to play with one. Just not at these prices.

Micro Center has a bunch of P55 boards available now, the list is on the website. They also have two i5 chips available, the 750 and i7 860 I believe. They are not listed on the website yet, but the guy there would have sold it to me yesterday. The i7 860 will be $229, and the 750 will be $189, if memory serves.

You can get 1156 stuff from Microcenter already. Was over there yesterday and they already had processors and boards out. I can't remember prices though. I've got to go back today to get a couple things I forgot so I'll check what prices are and report back.

Im sorry if this sounds ignorant but i just dont understand why people would stop buying 1366 for 1156. 1366 just sounds better and i was reading the overclock thread and its amazing...i guess what im trying to say is why would people buy the 1156? Id pay the extra 80 dollars for i7 920 since it has 16x2 lanes and the HT.

If this is in the wrong section or anything im sorry, just let me know and ill make a separate thread somewhere else. I just thought it would be nice to explainit in this thread so when people see the prices they will know why they should pay these prices.

It's a lot cheaper. And in games, it won't really matter what you have. A Phenom II X4, i5 750, i7 920 will all do about the same in pretty much all games..

p55 uses the old DMI interface and x58 uses the new QPI interface.

DMI is limited in many ways in which QPI is not.

the thing thats new about p55 is that its actually half in the cpu and half in a single chip chipset on the mobo.

the price per perfomance ratio is not same as i7/x58 no.

p55 is solely for low end video cards or single gpu setups as it lacks the pcie bandwidth that x58 has.

most p55's are 8x + 8x or 8x + 4x + 4x or even 16x + 4x

another thing about the new cpus is...

to match performance of the low end i7 920(s1366) you have to spend 2x as much to get the i7 870(s1156) which is kinda dumb.

if you are looking to get something new to beat your old core2 setup...

this is it...

but i would say you may be kinda dissapointed because its not THAT much better to justify swapping out your current setup.

i DO highly recommend goin I7/x58 if you're looking or a good performance bump
