Gigabyte has a custom-design version of the ATI Radeon HD 4770 accelerator ready, packed with 1 GB of GDDR5 memory instead of the usual 512 MB. Already listed by several German online stores, Gigabyte GV-R477UD-1GI is selling for as low as 114.43 EUR. Although there are no pictures of the actual card, we can infer from the model name that it is going to have a custom design, featuring Gigabyte's Ultra Durable Video technology that makes use of durable components, and perhaps the signature Gigabyte-blue PCB.

Apart from the expanded memory, the rest of its specifications remain the same, including clock speeds of 750/800 MHz (core/memory). Notable specs of the Radeon HD 4770 include 640 stream processors, DirectX 10.1 support, and ATI CrossFireX support. A global launch of the accelerator can be expected soon.

what a waste of time - that card will NEVER be able to fully utilse all 1Gb since it doesnt have what it takes to run high resolutions.

smart move Gigabyte - you may fool the general 'lets-buy-a-HP-Pc-from-pcworld' public but your not fooling me! good day to you sir!

Didn't this card benchmark in the same range as a 4850 and sometimes slightly faster. I also remember th3 4770 512 MB in crossfire being an absolute monster. These varieties, I don't think, are nearly as pointless or foolish as you might thing.

Yes it is , 4850 was better at some games and 4770 at other games but both are nearly equal . 4770CF was giving 4890 performance but cost was the same .
Some people may choose 4770 1gb if price is right (would like to see how new 40nm 800 shader 128bit DX11 parts will be priced ) .I hope gigabyte did not put crappy loud cooler like this one on 9600gt

The Zalman Cooler on the 9600GT is not crappy at all.
Whats crappy is the lack of speed control from Gigabyte's design. :shadedshu

Seems like a very sensible card to me:

1./ 1GB will significantly outperform 512MB at 1600x1200, 1920x1080, 1920x1200. A 1GB 3850 was 2-3x as fast as a 512MB 3850 at these resolutions (with FSAA dialled up), so I can only imagine the same holds true here. Remember, ATI hits a performance wall at 1600x1200 if there is only 512MB

2./ It will be the coolest, quietest, lowest power 1GB mid-performance card out there

3./ If running dual screens, the 1GB is a must for, e.g. FSX

and 1GB is useful in Crossfire,as it only the quantity of the lesser card is used (imagine a card 30% stronger than a 4890 with 512 VRAM)

the 4850 is faster then a 9800GTX+ in many many reviews - the 4770's adversary is the 9800GTS which the 4770 out performs in a few tests but they are still very closely head to head. pretty much even in terms of performance but the 4770 has that tiny bit more over the 9800GTS.

I'm not slamming the 4770 as a card - im slamming the fact that they put 1Gb on it when they know full well, that its only going to amount to 1-2 or maybe 3 more fps if running with a single card.

If 1GB of GDDR3 works pretty well on 256-bit, I'd imagine 1GB of GDDR5 should at least be comparable on a 128-bit bus.

Luckily AMD stopped that whole Master / Crossfire edition card stuff a long time ago. The same card that can be used alone can be used in Crossfire :)

its almost 19% faster then a single 4890 when 2 4770's are crossfired.

I know. I saw a few reviews that put the 4770 about on par with the 4890 when in CF. I also saw a few with occassions (1 or 2 games) when drivers are done right put 2 4770's at on par with the MIA GTX 280. I think it has some untapped potential that I believe the extra DDR5 may help bring out. I give it more like 7 to 15 FPS increase at higher resolutions and about 20 when in CF at high resolution.

I am also a firm believer that the 4850 is the same price range, so pay the extra $10 and get it instead, so we will see.

I don't know where you are from, but the overclock these cards can produce is amazing, the core outperforms the 4850, and with a 1GB variant the 4850 has nothing left to give.

I ran 4770/4770CF on 1920x1200 res with no problems, the1gb version was requested by many a while ago, why the fuss when it actually comes out?

I would buy a pair of these so fast if they didn't idle at 35watts each.

c'mon ATI, you couldn't do better with 40nm?

When a CF config. idles, one GPU is not used. I actually believe it turns off (if no monitor is connected to the card itself). As such, it would idle at 35 watts total.

not true. Maybe that was in the original plans but it is certainly not implemented in my system. I really hope someone proves me wrong, I would love the power savings but my power consumption just doubled when I added the second card.

In fact, I remember reading the 4770 thread at silentpcreview forums where someone measured their power consumption under crossfire and it also doubled. (35+35)

the 4850 is faster then a 9800GTX+ in many many reviews - the 4770's adversary is the 9800GTS which the 4770 out performs in a few tests but they are still very closely head to head. pretty much even in terms of performance but the 4770 has that tiny bit more over the 9800GTS.

I'm not slamming the 4770 as a card - im slamming the fact that they put 1Gb on it when they know full well, that its only going to amount to 1-2 or maybe 3 more fps if running with a single card.
I guess W1z did a fake review?

Either this or the 4850 is on crack. Or you are actually wrong :nutkick:
Spec wise the 4770 is only behind on shader count and the higher clock speeds more than made up for it.

Software Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Workstation now migrated to W10 with regrets.
Looking at those review statistics, it looks like the 1GB 4770 might be the highest performance card per watt of any card whatsoever. (Until a new LV HD 5xxx comes out).

That fact scores pretty highly in my books. Count me in and interested in this card.
