Wolfenstein sells 106k on PC, PS3, and 360 combined

How poorly did Wolfenstein fare? According to NPD numbers obtained by GameSpot, the 360 version sold just over 59,000 units, with the PS3 edition barely clearing 30,000. Add in the PC iteration's 17,000 units, and Wolfenstein sold only around 106,000 units in the five days from its August 25 launch to August 29, when NPD's monthly reporting period ended.

Neither the Xbox 360 nor the PlayStation 3 version of Wolfenstein cracked the top 10, despite the classic id shooter reboot being promoted by Activision--which was shut out of the top 10 entirely.

I played it through, and it sucked - outside of the missions requiring you to use the amulet powers, they dont even get mentioned throughout the game... its like they were tacked on at the last minute.

having no relevance to the original sucks too

1 million is good; 10 million is a lot. 100,000 is mediocre/poor. The first week isn't very long though. That basically means there wasn't much hype surrounding the game. Word of mouth might cause the sales to fluxuate in the 1-3 month range. If there is no bump after three months, the game is deemed a commercial failure.

Economy, time of release, and lack of hype because it's been so long since Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Add on that it felt like Call of Duty and wasn't all that great and you get this result.

Well I think it is justified because the game was generic and pretty mediocre. It brought nothing new to the table, looked dated and many of its features felt ham fisted and unoriginal.

Part of the problem was that the game wasn't really well known leading up to the release. Games that sell huge numbers the first week, always get talked about a lot before they are released, for months before they are released. Wolfenstein didn't exist to most until the day it was released, I know I was totally surprised to even hear it existed up until just a few days before it came out. The game flew relatively under the radar during its developement.

The fact that it sucked when it was released probably didn't help much either...

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed the game?

I thoroughly enjoyed the single player campaign; I thought it was engaging and I also really liked the graphics and sound effects. What's the problem if it runs on the Doom 3 engine? It had some tweaks that made it look above average. It had some really cool and great effects.

It's a shame because this is actually a good game.

i'd agree with that. the whole way through i was thinking "laaaaame"... but i did have fun with the powers. they were well balanced, and spiced things up (without the powers... well, terrible)

wow mussels, lol that was quick, IMO i loved the game and couldnt put it down, i loved the old medal a honor type of feeling and how it felt awesome to shoot the guns, and the way the enemies reacted when you shot them and the ability to upgrade guns, to put it this way, i play almost every game that hits the markey and most of them just end up on my floor adding to my massive piles of games, anyone that seen pictures of my room can vouch for this but anyhow this is one of the few games that grabbed ahold of me and took me for a ride for anyone that didnt like this game, i feel sorry for you.

I just got hold of this today, and I like what I see so far. Graphics look quite sharp to me, the facial details are good...I do think it feels a bit like COD though, but thats not surprising since its an Activision title.

Those ninjas for example. They're deadly when you first meet them (and i mean, dead in seconds) - but once you get some powers happening like the one that turns people to stone when you slow time, they're utterly weak and you can insta kill them

Most enemies are the same, but its very lame to have a "rock paper scissors" approach to upgrades you can only get by finding secrets... there is no guarantee you have the right tools for the job, so some levels were ridiculously hard for me since i went all out on the guns first, and not the powers.

I havent played this yet, but somehow I feel like this game will be alot like clive barker's jericho. Horrible on paper - but fun as hell to play.

The opposite of that is Far Cry 2 - which looks great when it comes to features and storyline, but is the most monotonous game ever made - and makes me want to bash my head against my keyboard.

i think i will give Wolfenstein a go.

i think it comes down to how you play the game... when i used the powers it was too easy and im playing it on the seccind hardest setting, but when just using the k98 mp40 for example it become a little more fun, but that being said once you worked out the weakness of a particular bad guy it just become too easy
