i have no problem with buying nvidia stuff, some things are quite nice, but who outs himself as nvidia fanboy, now, has to be completly silly. they simply FUCKED their chip. no gt300 for christmas,do you get it? they are too dumb, and too addicted to money to achieve even 10% yield!!!
if they out it, propably on march next year, it will cost a small fortune. more than 2 5850 in crossfire. dont float the green boat. they are sinking.

just my 2cents;)

EDIT: just, please stop the fanboying. nvidias new product ist not worth the good words until we see a working prototype.

its the best price\performance for the 24 screens?
One of the best for 23.9 inch, at lease I am happy with it.
At the same time it made me kick my HD4850 out of the window because it runs out of memory all the time.

go for the 5850 now and play games while the nvidiots wait for the ceo to show an actual working product

Wow did not expect that one W1z, however what exactly quantifies an Nvidiot? fans/fanboys/ppl who wont buy ATi?

Because really I consider myself to 'like' nvidia products more, but still buy ATi and have my sights set on 5850's too.

I guess those that still insist on "GT300 rapes Cypress" qualifies as nVidiot
So you are just an ordianry nV fan.

I guess so, however on the same token I will definitely say there are a lot of ATidiots out there, which for the past few generations have been pretty much exactly the same, believing the hype before its fact, and believing it loudly and proudly.

Ahh well those people get what they deserve anyway right :D

Ozzyman, looks like you might need to send me a 5850 after all......

i also love ATI but i dont know

Get it now. By the time you decide you want to get it, they will be releasing a new product. Happened to me. I bought my 4850 when it was one of the best, then the 4890 came out soon after and now the 5850 and 5870 are out and my 4850 is pretty much outdated.

As long as it does what you need, why would age matter?.

I'm still planning to get a GTX 260, all i do is tons of gaming and go on the internet so its more then enough.

He's not really saying anything except it will lower ATi's prices, so I say, the sooner they release it the better, whether you want Fermi/Cypress or Hemlock.

Both the 5850 and 5870 are very capable cards, you will be happy with either.
It depends on if you want the "bang for the buck" or if you want the best you can afford.

For the time being why don't they just shrink the 200 gtx to 45nm die size then ramp up the mhz and use ddr5. No one cares about Dx11 yet and that would get them over the hump. The 285 gtx is on par with the 5850 and the 295 with a two 45nm chips could be really fast with ddr5. Plus with a smaller die they could lower prices. Sure the geforce boys would not have Dx11 but they would still be okay with prices lowered. They might own the middle range and lower end cards and let ATI have the top for a while. Thats how I would handle this. Heck it's not like the 200 gtx cards are not competitive. It is their price that too high at present. The 285 gtx should drop to 250 and that would compete very well with the 5850 and the 295 gtx should be dropped to 330ish to compete with the 5870.

The problem about going 45/40nm and GDDR5 is that the chip needs to be redesigned, they have a hard time getting the GT300 out the door, why waste R&D on an old chip?

Why aren't nVidia dropping their prices?
Simply because there is an army of nVidiots who march behind nV and pay.
Or because they will die without Physx/Cuda and Badaboom to convert their porn and watch on iPhone in the bus.:nutkick:

You should get an ATi tattoo. Poke a hole in the 5 series box and make love to it. :p

Some of us are waiting to find a better reason to upgrade "game wise". I would be all over Eyefinity if I thought 24 displays would comfortably fit in my living room. Three displays makes for a large amount of stretching but 24 is pretty awesome. Three display Hawx would be a great reason to upgrade but now that I have seen it in action I believe it would make me sick. :(

I still think for price/performance 4 series Ati and GTX series are better. New stuff commands top dollar and when you have more important things in your life than playing video games it makes it sometimes hard to justify. It also makes it difficult to justify the purchase without something that you are interested in taking full advantage of the power immediately. Minimizing depreciation of luxury items is a good thing.

The Price/Performance for the HD 5800 series is better than any of the GTX200 in that price range.
At lease the HD 5850 is unbeatable right now in that price range, the GTX 285 simply have nothing much to compete.
Since the OP is looking for a new Display Card now, it is wise to get the 5850 and be happy with it while others wait.

I would say the GTX 260 216 and 4870 1GB would be a great choice with a new monitor. Consider what he is upgrading from and the fact that HD 5800 series is overkill for all current games.

Assuming the pricing in his region is like the USA or a similar market.
