4890 vs gtx 260

I got a 4890 laying around and I am considering replacing my gtx260. Now, the gtx is a 192, but its the MSI oc version, so performance close to the 216 model.

Now should i sell the 4890 or sell the gtx?

I on occasion play some games, i watch blu rays and lots of blu ray rips 8-15gb files.

I think you should sell both and buy my 4870x2.
Seriously that is a tough choice. I'd pry stick with the 4890 if it was me. really a tough choice.

Ditch the GTX260... If it was a core 216 version, i'd think about it (if CUDA and PhysX was priority), but in this case i don't see a reason to keep it. HD4890 is simply newer tech.
And they can both accelerate HD video, so there isn't much difference regarding this.

I don't know who'd want to buy either card right now, but if you were gonna keep one.. Unless the 4890 was like 30-40$+ more, I'd keep the 260.. But the 4890 has a lot more advantages.

There is also one other option. If your mobo is SLi ready, sell Radeon and get another GTX260.
Or vice versa by doing the same thing with GTX260 and going Crossfire...

But since you play games just here and there, single HD4890 should do it just fine.

Can you put both cards inside of you PC the 4890 for GFX and the 260 for Physx?

Only if you're using WinXP or Win7. Doesn't work in Vista. And you have to use hacked drivers because stupid NVIDIA blocked this feature in latest releases of PhysX package.

The GTX260 contests the 4870, the 4890 contests the 275, so what's the debate about here?
Why would you keep the GTX260 over the 4890, that seems illogical to me?

I'd say do what inf3rno says, but only if you can sell the 4890 at a price that will cover the 5850 (their performance is almost the same, but 5850 got far better features).

well a 260 would sell for about $100

the 4890, probably $155

that would cost me $20 for a 5850

It sounds like you don't play a whole lot of games, so the GTX260 should be plenty as it will play any game on the market, and any game coming out in the near future.

I say sell the HD4890 since it is worth more, keep the GTX260. Plus, I would always go with the GTX260 because it beats the crap out of the HD4890 in folding.

Agree.Try getting a Asus or MSI HD5850 and tweak it to 1.25(should suffice for 1000 core)

the gtx260 keeps up well with the 4890 so keep the gtx plus the gtx is a few bucks cheaper so if you sell you make a little more on the 4890

newer tech doesn't mean its better take ATI and its HD2xxx series it was shit compared to the 8000 series from Nvidia

192 clock better so remember that

clock the 192 sp 260 as high as it will go, and it will perform close to a 4890 at stock... each card has times when it will mop the floor with the other one.

Keep the 192 for the time being and pocket the extra $$.

I went from a GTX260/216 to a 4890 Toxic and the 4890 is the better card. Sell both and get a 5870.

You might wait a month or so till Hydra 200 gets implemented on X58 (available on P55 for God know what reasons) and thus have a healthy SLI-Xfire System,and till then you could install a sec OS with diferent drivers(is you want to run both cards whilst waiting).Or you could just sell both and get 5850 with no extra money

If you don't really game a lot, I'd just sell one of them and use the money to buy something that you do need. Since both of those cards will hold their own for quite sometime.
