Finding a 5850/5870/5970 - not easy!

Been watching Newegg and Zipzoom for the past few weeks. Newegg has only one card available as of yesterday, a 5850 @ $280... no 5870's available.

I want to buy myself and early christmas present to go with my new Wolfdale. :cool:

I poked around and didn't see any threads dedicated to spotting these cards - is there one?

I just picked up a 5870 from new egg. 1 came in and only for 10mins and I got it. But huury 1 is here

Whoops looks like it just sold out..... That's how quick it happens. But keep an eye out there they sometimes get them in and then they are only there for about 5mins. Like I said that's how I got my Diamond card that should be here today

ahhh the wolfdale... just traded my q9650 at 3.85 ghz and went back to my e8500 bc there was a 0% difference in performance with the Q lol.

great chip - but yeh - 5850 would be the way to go, they seem to OC massively better.

... actually, I bet we'll see a dual core GPU in the next two years.

That's what I'm aiming for, but might get a 5870.

What's the clock on your E8500? Wolfdale chips are GEMS!

Ahhhh but had you a good P45 motherboard you would have been benching at around 4.3 - 4.5gig and then you certainly would have noticed the difference.

yes my MB was allergic to quad cores

...

but the e8500 is a c0 and I have it now at 4.2 stable 24/7 and so far I think i will keep it for another year before going 32nm quad.

Are they that rare in the states?

Here in NZ 5870s are in ample supply, but only a week ago did XFX ones arrive. I got myself a MSI though.

i got a 5870 a week ago here in norway, they had around 5 in stock, and now they are emty and there is another store that sells 5850 for like 25% that still got in stock lol

Heh, my 2002 Toyota Camry sedan is probably worth around $6000, so I guess it is safe to say that I could buy 2 cars for the price of that particular graphics card, or even buy like 4 NVIDIA Quadros or a loaded Tesla Desktop Supercomputer. :roll:

Some on eBay... 5870's around $400+ and 4850's are pretty much non-existent!

What's the clock on your E8500? Wolfdale chips are GEMS!

I agree with both you guys....I was running a E8500 Wolfdale, then came across a great deal on a Q9550 so I made the jump to a quad. To be honest with both clocked at 3.4GHz, the E8500 ran as well if not better...I've been thinking of putting it back in again.

It's a shame these new 5800 series cards have been hard to come by.....I am planning to wait and see what ATI releases next and hope for a decent drop in price on the 5870's (I may be waitng for a while) or see if they come our with something along the lines of a 5890. My 4890 is still doing a great job and should carry me for some time. I usually wait till the current generation of cards have been out for a bit before making any changes.

XFX cost a little more than the rest but they come with double life time warranty. XFX has much better resale value.

It is a vey nice card.
I had the luck of snagging a 5870 off xs systems forums for $350 shipped.
The guy was just benching it and was done - he kept all of the games.
It was a Sapphire but flashed to the unlocked Asus bios.
Does 930/1300 without problems (hadn't had the need to push it further) - but does fine stock too.
With my 4.5ghz e8500 I break 20k on 3dmark06 stock card settings.
Good luck in finding one!

And I totally agree - I would rather play with dual than a quad anyday - and they seem easier to overclock and cool too.
