can my psu handle it?

i was thinking of getting another eco samsung 5400 hard drive but im not sure if my psu has the power how can i tell?also if not whats the best to get for under £40?

Your PSU should be able to take it, it's not the greatest quality though, how long have you had it?

ive had it for about 3years, i wasnt sure as im not sure how much less the eco hard drives use. also i think its only single rail , its been goot so far so will buy the drive and if i get any problems i guess i will then purchase a new psu

hard drives use 10W on average, 15W peak when they first turn on (for less than 5 seconds)
those samsung ecos are probably more like 5W and 10W, respectively

as long as you have plugs to fit them, just keep slapping HDDs in

well ive got to many usb drives and why spend so much on the mybooks when i can get twise as many internal, so ive had to buy a 3.5 t 5.25 adaptor to make room, so theres room just have to use a few adaptors in order to power it!

just be careful with all the power adaptors, they tend to be a weakspot (easy to break, easy to disconnect while in use... easy to try and plug in backwards, and toast the drives)


just be careful and make sure they're all in tightly before powering on the PC, and you should be good to go.

true very slow i got a deal when i purchaed 4x1tb drives 2 for me 2 for a friend and only paid about £65 each drive from currys my friend worked there so at the time was cheaper then an internal! look nice thats about the only good thing

if you ever get any more externals look into E-sata... its a lot faster (upto 300MB/s, as opposed to USB's max of 35MB/s (more common is 25-30MB/s)


3x faster = one third the time waiting for files to copy, meaning your drives are in use one third the time, suffering one third the wear and tear (and therefore, will last longer)

i agree i imagine the next external i get will be usb 3.0 ,however the good thing about the usb drives is i dont have them on very often so the data is a little more safe id guess then my internal samsungs however every wd internal i have have had failed to be fair they were in raid. also my whole house hold has arround 12tb of data and id day 5 of that is mine and is dublicated on my dads setup

yea you'll definitely be fine... I once had 4 hard drive, 4 video cards, 2 sound cards, and on over clocked Pentium D 2.8 to 3.5 on a 350watt power supply and it ran fine.
