The logitech set looks pretty nice, but the M-Audio StudioPhile AV20s mentioned by DonInKansas looks sweet also. Just wondering, how good is the bass on the M-Audio StudioPhile AV20s ?

And as for 2.1 or 5.1, I guess either could work, just whichever is good price and good performance. Ones i use is just some random Creative speakers (2 small ones and 1 subwoofer).

I liked the X-240's 2.1's or the Z-2300's 2.1's

240's are cheap and good speakers for the money, best of all you can usually find them on sale for lower then newegg's
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121010

Also the Z-2300 are AWESOME!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121122&cm_re=Z-2300-_-36-121-122-_-Product

Its Basically the Z-5500s but only 2.1

Newegg has one openbox for only $100

I was in your situation once.

Logitech X-240 looked too weak (in hindsight, prolly not) and the Z-2300's were expensive so I settled on the Logitech Z-4. I'm happy with them. I'm no audiophile, but both music and games sound great. Lots of bass. Not window rattling, but no doubt there's lots. If I couldn't afford the Z-4, then I would have picked the X-240.

No 5.1 for me because it's useless unless you can put the speakers within 2-3 ft behind you.

Strictly for gaming, X-540 seems to be a popular choice. I don't own them, but thought I would chime in as they're going for ~60 USD right now.

Music speakers on the other hand, you could do a whole lot better.

wait so the X-540 aren't that good for music hmm, I do want something thats good in music more so than gaming i guess. And after thinking about it i don't think my room will be able to fit 5.1 since its actually quite small. So going to go for 2.1, but anything good and around 50 bucks ish?

For the price, the X-540 are supposed to be good overall for both gaming and music. But if audio playback quailty (read: audiophile) is what you're looking for, then for around $100 there are much better speakers available. Like the Swan M10 or M12. M-Audio speakers get a lot of praise as well.

For ~50 though, the X-540 is probably your best bet.

There's nothing wrong with X540s for music. Especially in a small room. Just put the subwoofer in a corner to make sure you have plenty of boom.

I have the AV-30s and while they sound good they are no match for the Z 2300s (which I also have)
The z2300s just shake the walls.(dont get if moms/dads or neighbors are close)

I would get a better 2.1 set than a cheaper 5.1 (I just dont want wires running all around the place)
The Logitech ones with subs are without a doubt the best way to go for the money.

x-540's are a very nice set of speakers. 84 bucks before shipping is not bad IMO. It dpeneds on your budget, but a safe budget to get a decent quality set of speakers that have the name, sound good for both music and gaming in a gernally normall sized room, its right around 1 hundo IMO.

Dang I missed out on the 60 buck Z540. Perhaps I will wait and look out for deals on them, I am leaning towards them, as I don't have the money for $100 speakers. Thank you all so much for the info and advice. Very very helpful :).
