M59 vs Tempest

A little history on my temps

Note: Ive now upgraded to a Q6600.

I think both are good air cooling cases that support water cooling. I want to know your opinions on both, also how long of a card can they both house. I havea temp problem thats killing my hardware, if/when (whenever that is) i can afford water i shall be going there.

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you about my Tempest, which I quite like.

+Plenty of fans
+decent amount of space
+nice amount of expansion slots
+like the looks
+top mount for 240-rad
+bottom PSU
+good build quality

-not too easy cable management (little space between mobo tray and side panel
-needs quiter fans or a controller (depends on how loud you like/dislike)

Can't say how long cards will fit. I can measure it if you like.

I'd suggest NZXT Tempest EVO which was released few days back if you prefer NZXT.

It has all the feature sof the M59, black insides better wire managemnt and best of all no rembving mobo for heatsink

I have a M59 and even tho i havnt messed with a tempest, i believe the M59 is a GREAT case for 59$ on the egg. Its bottom mounted PSU with clear side panel, two 140mm slots, 3 120mm slots, and opening in the motherboard tray so you can change your HSF with ease, black painted and tool less bays. This case can handle the longer video cards like my GTX 285 at 10.5 inch with room to spare :) i will have pics posted of it once i get a velcro kit to install my blue cathoed light

*EDIT*

another thing i like is the sideways mounting of hard drives instead of front to back. easier to install drives without taking the video card out some times and maybe hitting a motherboard component

M59 has one amazing flaw I was so sure that the M59 would be my next case when i first saw it, i thought damn its like the Tempest but better and its cheap!
The top 5 1/2 bay is blocked buy one of the top fans, you cannot add an optical drive to the top bay. The top bay is stealth too with a nice cover on it so that sucks.

IMO its a big flaw. Apart from that the feet are plastic too and its a bit thin on the steel.

Beta EVO is more appropriate because although its cheap it can get away with some flaws the M59 cant.

Tempest EVO and the Gamma look cool but the Tempest EVO is probly a bit more expensive, id rather get the lancool k-58 as opposed to the Tempest EVO because after using the Tempest original i noticed the plastic pegs to hold on the front panel become crap and less tight and the 2 top mesh to cover the fans suck they get all bent if you remove them even gently, advantages are the new EVO has better cable management and better fans and is black. For a cheaper case id get the lancool K-56 but it has no top fans i think?

Purely on aesthetics alone, I'd go with the Tempest, that M59 is fugly!

Depends on your tastes but price is an issue too, the original Tempest is available for up to £80 and the M59 up to £45 a bit of a difference.

The new Tempest EVO
"The Tempest EVO is available now for with an MSRP set to $100."

The Midguard is a good choice too i think.

The lancool K-58 is the best tho sure you dont have all the fans but at least comapred to the Tempest EVO its a better design and its a Lian Li case.
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Lancool/Dragonlord_K58/

With the Tempest EVO out i wouldnt even bother with the old Tempest. I thought the Tempest was a mid range case? The Beta is a low budget case?

Trust me as a Tempest user its a nice case but i just want a bit more quality, if i kept it mint condition i would even bother changing it but it does get a bit of wear.

EDIT: with the Tempest EVO out dont even consider the older Tempest, i thought that the Tempest was a mid range or budget enthusiast case where as the BETA EVO is a budget case? Im sure both can hold an ATI 5850 so it can hold practically any card. What are they like 11inch or just near that? IF You want or plan to go water in the future the Tempest can hold a Rad directly under the 2 top fans im not sure one would fit in a BETA or M59

Exactly why I said I'd go with the Tempest. No wonder the M59 is less it's fugly.

Is there a reason why you chose those two cases? I think there are better options, especially on airflow, when it comes to something in the same price range.

Where are you located?

I know Cooler Master is usually the normal when it comes to case suggestions but....

Gladiator 600
RC 690

If you want something a little non CM

TR Element T
TR Element S
Enermax Staray

Of course there is always the monster of airflow the HAF 922. It kind of depends on how you like the whole design and such. CM has a refurbed one at their store: refurb 922

I personally took my Q9400, 4870x2, 7200.10 & Raptor from my CM C5 case to the now current HAF 932 I have. Not only did temps drop, fans speeds also lowered. I did a straigh transplant from one case to the other and nothing was changed. I was really surprised at not only the temp drops but also how much quieter everything was in the HAF.

I would get a 922 and put a 200mm CM fan on the side of the case, but I know people have reserve for it since there are no filters on that case. Though, if it is anything like the 932 is, which I'm sure it is, then you won't be disappointed.

I must admit it is different but I just can't help but think it doesn't work (especially not for me anyway) As for Lancool, that have some pretty nice cases.

There are the mid tower Aerocool cases with a 250mm fan built into the side of the case. It pretty much takes up the whole side panel. It's something different that could be of use.

In Jamaica.

Would love if the case has integrated support for watercooling with minimal if no mods
