This poll is to get an idea of how many members use Crossfire / SLI in their systems and if they do, what is their opinion on this matter. Is it worth it?

I have used Crossfire in the past, i had twin 1950Pro's before getting a HD4870 that was later replaced to my current HD4890. Note that during that time, my 1950pro's would not really engage too often. Depended on wich games. I could see when CFX was really in use because of the power gauge indicator on my UPS.

Even if CFX/SLI works (to a certain degree), i'd rather get a single powerfull card and i'm not talking about those X2 type cards either. My current 4890 can handle pretty much any game on 1920X1200. Less headaches, less power comsumption, less heat and a lot less expensive.

CFX/SLI is really not worth it in my books.

I used to have a 1950XTX PE. When I added a second, it made a huge difference in games.
I'm not sure why you don't like the X2 cards as the one I currently have rocks.
I would get a 5970, but everything runs just great for me at 2560x1600 with the 4870x2.

As always, just my opinion.

I had crossfired 4850s and 4890s, currently only one 4890 due to the crossfire inability of my current board. the two 4850s made sense, and having two of them really boosted the system up.
Crossifre 4890 however well... I don't know what I was thinking, one is plenty.

Currently have 2 4830's in CF.

I think CF has its applications. Obviously it's useful on the high end... nothing can compete with 2 of the fastest graphics cards working together. I also it think it's useful with two midrange cards. The prices makes it all work out... you could get 2 4830's for $200 which perform really close to a GTX 285, which sells for $300+. Not bad.

I don't, since I already can't make complete use of the full power of a 4890 yet.
Besides, if your games are maxed isn't that enough? :p

I still haven't reached the limits of my 4870. Nonetheless, I will be getting a 5850 sometime after Christmas.

i will be getting 2 5770 for CF, using a 4870x2 atm and that card is a monster, even though its an older card i havent had any problems with it, had gtx-260 in SLi for a period, it was really nice, scored more than my gtx-295, and performed better.

i would love to have 2 4870x2 in quad cf, but havent heard anything else than problems with that setup.

but i'm lookin forward to the 5770s, ther should be between a 5850 and the 5870.

Been using Crossfire since it worked on NF4 chipsets. Still have my A8N-SLi...and with older bioses, it still runs crossfire. Newer bioses have nV crap in it that disables the peer-to-peer linking.

Did the Phys-X thing too...until nV bought ageia, and now even the ageia cards don't work with ATI cards(unless you use the right driver, which breaks newer games).

Currently running eyefinity...if it's new tech, and has potentia lto succeed, I buy it, and support those that innovate.

I ran 8800GT SLI before my current HD4870X2 and I am eyeing a pair of HD5870s or a pair of NV cards whenever they show up and prices begin to drop.

crossfire on older intel chipsets is bugged, you get nasty flickering with Vsync off

Nope, I don't see the point in running multiple cards unless:

1.) You've got a stupidly large screen 26"+
2.) You've got a relatively old GFX card, you're starting to feel the bite and you manage to blag a cheap 2nd card.
3.) You're folding.

Even though I have a Crossfire board, I won't be using a second card unless it was given to me for free. The added expense of running an extra card out ways the performance gains.

That's like bragging about a bone-stock car ;)

Though I'll most likely be looking at a single 5870/5890 myself, until Eyefinity shapes up.

I fail to see the comparison? What, like a car with the crappy hub-caps removed and sick alloys instead?

Not that I meant to get this in-depth on it.. but sure: nice wheels, turbo/super addition, custom paint job, improved audio system, even some bolt-ons, etc. Something to differentiate yourself.

My number 5: Bragging, comes from uniqueness.
