Will XFX 9800GT 512MB work on my Motherboard?

It will run in that board. PCIe 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.x slots. There will be no noticeable performance hit. I would be more concerned that you have a capable PSU to run the card.

the only 400w psu i can imagine can run a 9800gt is a corsair or an ocz. if its not that, get a new one

I think it would be cheaper to keep the PSU and get an HD 5750 (60W in FurMark vs 86W in games for the 9800 GT). Plus the HD 4770 is a bit faster than the 9800 GT, and the HD 5750 is faster than the HD 4770. What's the power consumption of your current graphics card?

still it requires a 6pin connector which if he has a cheapo psu it will need to use the molex converter and probably will run out of molex. you can get the 5750 but i will buy a psu, just to be safe.

The Intel D101GGC is a Netburst board, so I will suggest the OP to get a 4670 if he is using a P4.
Anything less than a high clock Pentium D will seriously hold back faster cards.
